My ESET SS5 license is nearing its end. I've not been keeping up with security software developments recently and I'm wondering if its still the best option? My basic requirements are: easy to configure, secure (ideally out of the box), as light on resource as possible and interactive filtering (so if some software tries to connect to the web, I'm asked if I want to allow/deny). Good built in AV would also be great (unless Windows Defender is up to the task?). In the past I've used things like Kaspersky, Outpost and Comodo but are these valid options? Is there anything better these days?

Edit: Does Comodo free still have a built-in firewall? I don't see a mention of it in the features list for Internet Security?

Eset including all the ones you mention are viable options. As you know we don't discuss what is better AV over some other. Try them and see what works best on your machine. You can also check the forums for opinions on each.
