Sept 5, 2019, new PCs ( 10-gen systems), are starting to become available. As an example, Lenovo just announced the Yoga that features both Ice Lake and Comet Lake CPUs. On reading this today, I referred back to this article from Feb 2019. It notes that Meltdown and Spectre will remain an issue for this architecture. If you are interested, the article does speak to some of the mitigations addressed in the 10-Gen CPUs and the impact they pose ... https://www.digitaltrends.com/computing/intel-ice-lake-wont-rid-spectre/ Microcode or software fixes (or both) is the burning question for Intel. However, it seems that the PC manufacturers prefer performance over security. For W7 users who will bite the bullet in 2020 and buy a new Intel W10 PC, the timing could not be worse. The irony would be an announcement of a new architecture (maybe oceans this time, instead of lakes) say in 2Q20 - that would make the investment a really bad decision.
