Spywarefighter Did Some Bad Things to My Comp

    Downloaded a free trial of Spywarefighter from an otherwise reputable software company. But it did some bad things to my computer, using Windows 7 operating system, from the get go. First, it slowed down the system to a crawl. Then when I tried to uninstall it, it turned off the Windows Installer, and after repeated attempts to turn it back on I could not. I went to processes in task manager and started systematically hunting down and turning off all processes related to Spywarefighter. It also damaged the current av installed at the time, Bitdefender. None of this could be uninstalled because of the damaged Windows installer.

    This was a nightmare. I finally was able to download Emsisoft because it does not require Windows installer to install on the computer. I ran it in safe mode, and finally got things up and running again after about seven hours of hard work. It was a really close call. I thought my comp was irreparably damanged for awhile. Don't know what went wrong, and don't know if Spywarefighter is as bad as what happened to me, but I am simply relaying what happened in my experience with this software.

    jjc225, at the bottom of this Spyware Fighter removal guide, you'll find several Files and Registry sections to see if there are any leftover remnants.

    As SG09 stated you might have downloaded the wrong one o_O

    I dont see how it can damage your installer. I even tried hacking a screensaver once in a hex editor to change the name it would appear as in the screensave selection tool when you pick your screensaver. Problem is it didn't work. What went wrong? Windows immediately detected the error and said I'd have to reinstall the screensaver (must have some kind of checksum for the file so it knows if it was altered). I just undid the changes in the hex editor. Point is that Windows can automatically tell if something has been altered that's a system file. You should immediately have been notified that something altered your windows installer and have been prompted to reinstall it from your Windows CD.
