I used RealPlayer years ago. I thought it was a great idea. I finally came to my senses & uninstalled it as it was just crash-happy & a security hazard. I have all of these great NASA TV files I can't play on anything else that I made with it.

http://www.free-codecs.com/download/Real_Alternative.htm ;) It's hosted by the same folks that host the K-Lite codec pack. Perfectly safe, I used to use it all the time. As to the story linked, this thread should get fun.

Thanks for the link. :thumb: Speaking of RealPlayer & software I used but hated, there was a BBC version of RealPlayer (only for the EU), believe me, the EU can keep that one as well!

USA still the best. But barely.
Right off the bat Java & Adobe. They always need updating & it's a pita. I'm sure I'll add more later.

Gotta love slide 2 & 3. So basically we should all switch to Chrome and create another monopoly when it's finally balanced out?

The current monopoly Webkit has on mobile devices is bad enough and already shows. The fact that firefox devs feel pressured to add -webkit- tags because web devs are only using those says it all... it's like back to the horrible IE6 days.

Nokia Music Player. Slow, confusing, and obligatory if you download from Nokia Music Store.

The only software I have that I don't really want anymore is Windows.

Very true. If I had the ambition to really learn Linux or BSD, Windows XP would be gone. Vista, 7 or 8 will never be here.

I really wish I could but I do enjoy a few games.

I think you could learn it. I also think you'd enjoy it since you use AE/Sandboxes, which are kinda built in (you need to explicitly allow execution in an AA profile.)

Using Linux full time with only a break once every few days to play a game.

I know you do, so therefore you have to compromise a bit, but you use Linux as your main OS so in a way you did get rid of Windows...:argh:

Yeah, definitely. I spend very little time on Windows. I don't play many games/ play games for very long when I do so I end up spending maybe two or three hours a week on Windows.

I really need to try PlayOnLinux.

I have to agree with the entire list, with the exception of the Apple stuff. I hate it, but don't use any of it. :D

I hope Microsoft gets their act together with Office. I remember back in the days of Windows 95 I thought it was great, but despite their ribbon interface (which I do not like) it really hasn't advanced much in the last 15 years. Seriously, though not as full featured, Windows Live Mail is slicker than Outlook. I hope they pull of something impressive with Windows 8 and Office 15. There has been a lot of complaint about the change but I am ready for some. They need to make computing fun again. It isn't any more. :(

Maybe. At the moment, I don't have the ambition or the incentive. Had Fedora installed for a while but got very annoyed with it. The way it installed was a nightmare. Some of the simplest tasks get to be such a pain. Getting rid of it required a complete rebuild of the hard drive and partition scheme.

As for the list itself, the only one on that list I ever "use" is install shield. It shouldn't really be in that list since it's not user software, just a major annoyance that installs it.

For Windows users looking for another alternative operating system, ReactOs looks promising. It is an open source on which one can run his favorite windows programs natively. That is if it goes from Alpha to Beta.

    Very nice article!
Well i use and like Microsoft Office. (The only thing i hate is the ribbon interface, but overall the software is pretty good IMO)
As for Internet Explorer, i don't use it anymore (Only in rare cases) but i don't hate it either, it's pretty good (IE 9).
Firefox, it's been a few years since i last used it.
As for Apple software, they're all crap IMO. (Luckily i don't need any of them since i don't own any Apple hardware)

What i've found quite funny is that usually when i format my friends PC one of the first software they install is . . . iTunes and they ONLY use it to listen music, not purchasing or anything else.
It makes me wonder why they don't choose a better alternative with better codec support and better features. :D
I guess they have turned into iSheeps. :isay: :thumbd: o_O :gack:

I think somewhere in that article they mentioned "captive" users; for example, those who were forced to use something because of workplace policy. Such people may be entitled to "hate". But otherwise what you said makes perfect sense.
