Set default PDF app to PDFXCView, and zip app to 7zip in Sandboxie?

I haven't used real time scanners since 2010 and quit installing on demand scanners in late 2011. So, I really dont know if MBAM (or other scanners) are able to scan properly while using a sandboxed Windows explorer. Perhaps some will work but wouldn't surprise me if most dont.

But you really don't have to scan files while using sandboxed explorer.

Do this. Force your Downloads folder (Use 1 folder for Downloads, and perhaps also allow downloads to be recovered to the desktop), and recover almost everything you download to this forced downloads folder. And scan files there. If for some reason, you execute a download by mistake, it will run sandboxed. So, if is malware, it will be sandboxed.

Try finding an AV you like that works good with Sandboxie, that's the best AV to use with SBIE. Use one that doesn't conflict with SBIE. That alone makes it a good option for using with SBIE. If you were using W10, I would recommend Windows defender.

I've found that only MSE runs in sandbox (and only if DAR is disabled), not MBAM. Just wanted to know if you had the same experience. Thank you!
Just curious, have you stopped using real time scanners because you found SBIE secure enough to make scanners redundant?

 

Yes, after using Sandboxie for a little while, the program convinced me that it gave plenty security, better than anything I knew (scanners). Scanners would never find anything so I got tired of updating them and running them. Installing, uninstalling and maintaining scanners became a chore. For me it works great not using scanners because, since I don't spend time using them or maintaining them, I have a lot more time to do what I really like doing with computers. Also, (to me this is important) since I dont use them, I got nothing that might interfere with Sandboxie, that makes me safer.

Hi Bo, you know why scanners never find anything? Because there is nothing out there to be found, the malware landscape has changed in the last ten years, black hats nowadays want to make money which means big corporations, city councils, airports are targeted specifically. Private individuals are not worth their time. Granted, one could still have their bank account or credit cards info hacked and stolen, but I still think people with a lot of money should worry, the average person is just insignificant to these guys. Spyware is still rampant, but it doesn't break your bank. I haven't run into malware for many years now, and all of my system restores have nothing to do with infections...

Hi Osaban. But you know, when I quit using scanners, malware was still basically the same than how it was when I first started using SBIE (I stopped using scanners about a year and a half after started using SBIE). Before SBIE, I would get infected once or twice a year, every year.

After SBIE, scanners quit flagging anything that was real malware. After a while I got tired of updating and upgrading scanners to newer versions that I was not using. It was funny because the time between scans as time passed by were getting longer so sometimes I would upgrade scanners that I never ran an scan with the previous version of the scanner. To me, it made sense to get rid of them completely. I never planned it or even thought about doing it, it just happened on its own. Like, it was the natural thing to do.
