Search data on drop-down menu

I'm new here, so I hope I'm putting this message in the right place.

I have the same problem that Trish describes with her drop-down menu. Unfortunately, though, I cannot erase/delete them from the drop-down. Maybe that's the difference between Win 95 (which Trish said she has) and Windows 98 SE, which I have. If I highlight an address and right click or hit the delete key, nothing happens.

I seem to be stuck with one website and the problem address that won't go away. I have deleted the temporary internet files, deleted cookies, cleaned the disk through the properties menu of the C: drive, deleted history, gone to the contents page in the internet options part of control panel and supposedly cleared something there out of the auto/something or another. Nothing seems to work.

I have not yet downloaded the MRU Blaster software and installed it. I thought I would try to get rid of this one pesky site some other way before doing that.

If you have any suggestions to offer, I would certainly appreciate it.

Well, I would highly recommend trying MRU-Blaster first. If MRU-Blaster does not clean that item, it would help narrow down the search immensely (for a first time user I would recommend ignoring the optional plug-ins for now - they are disabled by default - and since you have Windows 98, you should probably uncheck the item in the Settings area labeled "Windows Stream MRU" - otherwise, just choose "Scan" and you are ready to go).

Someone on another web site mentioned using MRU Blaster for my problem, but said he ran the program "a long time ago" and it erased more files than he wanted it to. Is that a problem in the Blaster? Maybe a long time ago, but not now?

I know practically nothing about computers, so I thought I would ask before I try to run it.

By default, MRU-Blaster will clear thousands of MRU items on your computer (if they exist). Some people do find certain MRU lists useful (such as a list of recent documents they have accessed) and will not find the default MRU-Blaster settings very forgiving. That said, customizing what items you want MRU-Blaster to ignore is very simple. (Plus you don't have to Clean all detected items without knowing what they are - simply press the "Show Results" button after scanning and you will get a complete list of all MRUs that were detected - and you can uncheck any there too).

Since you have Windows 98, I would recommend unchecking (in the Settings area of MRU-Blaster) the "Windows Stream MRU" item at first. This would certainly not contain the data you are looking to clean, and since it *may* contain saved window settings (i.e. how big and where on the screen the windows for various programs were the last time you used them), it may be in your best interest not to clean it. (That said, this MRU can also contain personal data. If you are interested in completely wiping your tracks, you should check it.)

If you have other programs, such as Microsoft Office, that you might want to keep the MRUs for (i.e. the drop-down list of your most recently accessed documents in Word) you can also uncheck that item in the Settings area.
