    Hi Everyone,

I have a Dell Dimension 4550, with XP Pro SP3. My computer came preinstalled with the first hard drive partition , being a Dell FS :O&DE (EISA configuration) {Pri} FAT16 Partition,[capacity 31.35 MB , free space 24.48 MB ). The other partition on the disk is my "C" drive. This is my Disk 1.

Later I installed a external hard drive , my disk 2 , with a 90 GB. "J" partition with which I store my disk 1, Acronis drive Image back ups. My Acronis software is , Acronis True Image Home 10 , build # 4942 and Acronis Disk director 10.0.0.2160 .

I've became curious about this tiny Dell partition (Acronis Disk Director shows .bat , .mdm , .exe and other files in the tiny Dell partition) , because after I updated to SP3 , my Acronis Drive Image back up software , freezes up when it is reanalyzing the Dell Partition during a scheduled back up . It will do a manual back up just fine, but only freezes up while doing a scheduled back up. And I didn't have this problem until after I updated to SP3. The auto scheduled backups worked just fine with SP2 .

When I scheduled my Acronis backups , under SP2 , I used both the Windows task scheduler and the TI 10 task scheduler.
First I used the Windows task scheduler, to wake up my computer from standby . I selected the True Image Home icon from the Windows task scheduler's drop down menu , and chose a time 4-minutes before the TI 10 task scheduler was to start. This would just wake up my computer, but the actual backup wouldn't start until the TI 10 task scheduler started 4-minutes
later. Then the drive image back up always succeeded , until I updated to SP3.

After reading some other threads, I found this script on my computer :832638CF-ECE2-4156-9E69-1C852EA28799.tib.tis .Should I use that script with the Windows task scheduler ?

I'm also attaching to log files to this post, one is for a successful back up with SP2. The other is a log of one of the unsuccessful backups under SP3.

    Feedback will be appreciated !

    Thanks.

Here are two things you can try.

    1. One of the changes made in XP SP3 was to shorten the user inactivity timer from 5 min to 2 min. When your scheduled task wakes the PC does it then go back to sleep before the scheduled backup starts? If so, start your wake-up task 3 minutes later. So instead of waking up 4 min before the scheduled backup try waking 1 min before.

    2. Many users have reported that TI spends a lot more time analyzing partitions after they installed XP SP3 (or Vista SP1). This seems to be what's happening upon reading your attached logs. Try disabling the Distributed Link Tracking Client Service. Home PC users do not need this service. Post #10 in this thread has instructions for doing this.

It's helpful sometimes tomake a small task of a few files to use to check out whetrher scheduling is working properly on a machine -- rather than wait hours, days.

I took your advice , and scheduled a Acronis e-mail backup today, of my Outlook Express mail folders . And I'm happy to report that everything succeeded .
I made the two changes that kOlo suggested and that fixed my problem.
I'm attaching the log file of today's successful, scheduled backup.
    Thanks again !
