    Hello all,

I have finally gotten around to installing and trying out File Checker.

I have one question and problem to ask about.

Where is the watch list encrypted to and saved as? The reason I ask is it does not appear that File Checker encrpts and saves my watch list.

I put in my files that I want watched, "Save Watch List" and then "Convert Saved Watch List to Encrypted Format". At that point the watched files are still in the "window" inside File Checker and all appears OK.

Upon shutdown and restart of my system however, File Checker loads (I have it set as a service), it is checking files, but no files appear in the "window" inside File Checker. Upon searching my system, I cannot seem to find the encypted watched file list (probably not looking in the right place).

How can I tell if my encrypted watch list is saved and then loaded, and File Checker is actually checking these files? I know the answer is just probably something I am missing but I want to be sure I have the program working correctly.

    Regards,
    Kent

FileChecker currently stores the watch-list in encrypted format in the registry.

If you have a registry protection program in place, FileChecker will not be able to save the watch-list.

When you click on the "Save Watch-List button", FileChecker should be saving the watch-list to the registry.

Try clicking on the "Encrypt watch-list" button twice - does it say that the watch-list is already encrypted? (It should - this may be a problem with an older version of a dll on your system - any and all info could help me figure out exactly why you are having this issue).

    What OS do you have?

TIA - I hope we can get this sorted out in a timely fashion :).

UPDATE: Do no files appear in the watch-list if you stop scanning?

    javacool,

I do use regrun on windows xp sp1.

I save the list, click encrypt twice, and am told it is already encrypted.

No files at all show up in the console window whether scanning or not.

    HTH.

    Regards,
    Kent

This is rather odd - sounds like a dll version issue to me (assuming you let FileChecker save its settings to the registry).

I haven't yet been able to reproduce this problem, but I'll be installing every possible version of every dll FileChecker uses to try to locate the issue. :D

I may make a quick installer that just installs all the latest versions of the dlls, on the off-chance that a program you installed overwrote a newer version of a dll with an older version (if you can PM me with your e-mail address, I'll be able to send this to you when its ready, if you would like).

Hopefully we'll get this cleared up soon.
