    I an trying to set up wireless connection tor my sons computor .If i select security and try anything but wep and shared key he cant access the internet.WPA and WPA2 etc stops connection but on all settings it says internet connection is ok.On all the settings it says connected but only using Wep can i get an actual connection.
    Why would this be and if i have to use wep am i as secure.

    No idea, insufficient info even for an educated guess. Which HW is involved? Which OS and which relevant other SW (firewalls, AV or whatever)? Etc. etc. etc.

    WEP is completely useless as a security measure these days.

    Maybe be your computer network card does not support WPA.

    My thoughts exactly. Please check if the PC/Laptop is 802.11b/g compliant.

    I re-installed a 5 year old Acer laptop a few days ago. Using the original disks the machine would not support anything but wep. went to windows update and looked at the hardware updates. once the new lan driver was installed WPA was available.

    Ok sorted it .His pc was on Vista and now its on Xp fully updated.I can now select all.
    Another question,will my router protect both machines,i have windows firewall enabled on his aswell
