    Also much appreciated your words.

    Yes, just a bit slower.

Nothing to say for the rest you exposed.

I agree with you that Rising firewall is one of the best. I like it to much and it's the only (freeware) that doesn't had provided me problems and yes a lot of solutions for my own behavior and knowledgement throught the Net. In the fact is easy to stop something who wants to go out with it, and most malwares need going out for stablish a connection, so reveals their existence many times if the AV fails detection.
And the best: easy, very easy, to configure the needed setup, if you don't need some protection, you uncheck from setup window and this is all. If after you like enable it, you rerun the setup (Add or Remove Components), choose you want, and this is all also.

RIS = RAV+RFW, little changes only (Network Connections viewer is now under "Tools" tab...) and the same protection functions.

Next I'll to do is ask to risingsupport for my own situation (using RIS and RFW, because RAV is published "free") and to wait their responses...

    Thanks,

    Zen

I contacted rising by email sometime ago about purchasing the firewall ,however I was disappointed by the reply, that the paid firewall if not subscribed to yearly, loses functionality.Im sure Rising are actually losing revenue with this strategy.

Hey it works and they're free, that's what counts.. RIS good for systems that can't run both RFW/RAV as they use dual RTrays that need to be loaded in the system resources. RIS has both and uses one RTray. Still which one is better? I say RIS for wireless laptops and RFW/RAV for your powerhouse desktops, workstations and servers.

Too bad it's not free. Looks like a nice firewall but 31 day trial only.

Well yes that one isn't free that's trial version. You need rfwfree.exe version to be free. I know it's confusing but that's how it is. You can use the links prior that had pointed to the rfwfree09.exe but this time take out the 09 so it looks like rfwfree.exe then it will download the one that doesn't need a license.

My feeling is that Rising are still testing the market somewhat to see which direction they want to follow. I only hope they don't ditch the firewall and only make it available in the suite.

Be interesting to see the updated version of the other Chinese offering Filseclab which was due to be released this summer but now won't be with us until the end of the year. With IPV6 (sort of) getting closer we'll be running out of pure firewalls so one more in development is good news. I heard from the developers a couple of days ago and they confirmed it will be free and without HIPS.

But they got enterprise versions of their cloud security which RFW/RAV & RIS is based on. Testing out the market or using the data from users all over the world to make their product stronger. I think they make more with the enterprise versions then with the home user versions. Thus producing free versions and trail versions. All know they work and protect.

Still using RPF 2009 product id FW_STC version 21.43.60 last updated 21june09, been offline since last post, just logged on, no license reminder yet.
Went to GRC ran scan all service ports, all stealth. While typing this msg rising license reminder pops up. Reran grc scan, same failure as previous day except this time port 1026 is OPEN. Do I correctly suppose that adding IP rule to deny access to local ports 1024-65535 would have desirable effect? Even if so, could other components of firewall be disabled anyway?
Better perhaps to install different rfwfree.exe from 07/08?

In fact Revo has limitations when own app.'uninstaller needs to reboot to do a complete uninstall. More info in this topic.

To do a accurate uninstall with this kind of software I use ever ZSoft Uninstaller. With their install analyzed log I do: 1. Uninstall with the own app. uninstall; 2. Reboot; 3. Uninstall with ZSoft analyze feature.

Said that it's needed to say that the own Rising uninstall is good. You don't need to use special uninstall remover like with McAfee, Norton, ThreatFire, etc. ...

I'm using yet the special version "Rising Personal Firewall 2008 Free Edition 20.44". To avoid updates'temptations (that get the commercial/payware 2009 version) I do this: in Rising Firewall'installation folder I delete the file "SmartUp.exe". Thus when I click in "Update Now" button there isn't anymore any update...

I'm glad with this excellent firewall: 3 MB CPU usage max.

P.S.: Unlike Rising AntiVirus it seems Rising don't want to promote a free version for their firewall. Like Avast: they have a AV free but their coming firewall won't be free.

Well all 3 free versions I am testing to see how long they can last. You can block ports you think you need to. There is a few bugs in RIS free though. I don't see these bugs in RFW free. The bugs are minor. That version you have there you have to uninstall it and reboot then clean out your system for junk files and registry using one of the free cleaners you use. Then install rfwfree.exe, update it and reboot.

Care host that file I can't locate that file anymore.. the 2009 version is free but that's hidden on it's on there virtual servers. I see running both RFW and RAV uses more system resources if you were just using the RIS (RFW/RAV integrated) less CPU spikes also..

Just tried that without sucess (with Returnil ON...:D ). It seems Rising Firewall likes to do updates to trial... :shifty: No big deal: I deleted "SmartUp.exe" and all is like a charm. ;)

For who likes Firewall'HIPS based - Matousec concept - Rising Fw isn't suitable.

Personally in a Firewall I give value to NIPS - to me HIPS is for an Anti Virus.

Rising Firewall is a friendly dog - it allows me to work without make a lot of noise...

    Hi all,

I've asked to risingsupport for an explanation of the use of Risfree09.exe, Risfree.exe, Rfwfree09.exe and Rfwfree.exe. And I've got a response from them:

1- All these softwares are for the China market and in China users.
2- Some functions and update server are different from Rising globe edition (international).
3- You could install and use them.
4- Rising Antivirus globe free edition (international) is available in freerav.com, a solution with no cost to personal users for the life of Rising Antivirus 2009.
5- Rising Firewall and Rising Internet Security globe free editions (international) aren't available at present.

I guess some things are answered now....:)

    Thanks and cheers.

So Zen if there are for the China market how come they have English version. They don't make much sense to me how they do things there. RIS Free updates, if it goes until 12/09 that would be great, if goes beyond that even better.

It's frequent to see some chinese softwares translated to english language also.
Chinese & english makes some "standard" there.
I don't see any incongruence by this both languages implemented, see you RISING is a big company with international corporate users.

I respect their explanation first, and if you don't believe in it or what I've posted about, you always are right to ask directly them. I'll stay surprised if you get something very different (it's nearly the same deadmeat said) but....who knows?

They seem aren't saying not allowed for out of China use, but are right for China market. So I guess some "license issues" appear for sure with their "chinese" update servers behavior.

In my previous post I've only described it, not interpreted it, those words they wrote.

I'm using now ravINT.exe (the international free) and rfwfree.exe.
The "Tools" tab from ravINT is more restricted than the one for the chinese market and no shows some applications, and no integration with Rising Antispyware (Rising PC Doctor).

I'm crossing fingers for no "license expiration messages" with rfwfree for the rest of 2009 also! ;)

Nah you already contacted them.. RFW/RAV use way to much system resources than RIS. RIS Free I'll just use that for now..

Work around the updates but would be a pain would be is to write a small script to put it off the rising server, then update the it manually. Should we run into the same issue after 90 days. Delete smartupdate.exe as was mention prior too.
