I find Proxo works very well for me. It has lots of built-in rules, and the ability to customize them all and add your own. (Plus a large user base that puts out new rules and ad-blocking lists quite frequently ) -Javacool
Hello all! I'm still using Naviscope 8.70, but I'd be more interested in Proxomitron if someone could coach me through the set-up and configuration. Once I understand what to do I don't forget. (Guess I could search Wilders. Bound to be something on it somewhere.) Naviscope can also slow things down considerably.
Hello guys Not sure what to think because I had in mind WindowWasher was a 'cleaner' instead of a web filtering device !? I may be wrong about that. I messed around for a while with Proxo and Naviscope, but never got to like them very much... I personally love WebWasher, although I sometimes still use the always amazing/efficient ATGuard technology... WebWasher is very easy to configure (takes about one minute to get it configured the way I want it), user friendly and extremely efficient. Freeware for personal/non-commercial users, it works perfectly well with any browser. You basically have four feature-categories, which you can use together or separately. They all appear in a single window, so you can always manage all options in the blink of an eye... **********First one - called 'proxy engine options' - is a choice between 'client', 'server', or 'neither one'. I use the 'neither one' option, which allows me to benefit from proxy features without ever using something which ain't on my own machine ! The only proxy feature missing here is, of course, that my own ip appears on the net - not one of an external proxy. Also under this first categories-tab are some one-click-away very useful options, amongst which 'prevent cache by-passing', 'replace browser identification by...', and 'no identification as Webwasher with server'. **********Second one is called 'Standard filter'. It basically presents the user with five choices: 'dimension filter' (to block ads, webbugs, any image you may want... With a built-in filter list you can add any dimension you may choose to...), 'URL filter' (allows you to prohibit the use of any url you may want, completely or only on some specific criteria - I could for example allow connection with site A, but consistently refuse some components of this site, i.e. forms, or frames, or text-links or background, etc-., 'pop-ups windows', 'scripts' (you can allow or disallow "scripts which a webpage executes on its load", "on its close", prevent supplementary modification of address, prevent modification of a browser status bar, prevent position and size modification of a browser window, allow or not right mouse clicks), 'allow, disallow or limit animations'. Under this tab, you also find the ability to replace blocked items with transparent image, chosen image, to decide not to filter items which are located on 'same server as', reduce (or not) filtered frame's size. **********The third tab is called 'privacy', under which 'Webbug filter' says it all, 'Referrer Filter' permits to remove referrer 'when the domain is different', 'when the domain or path is different', or 'always', 'Cookie Filter' is basically a cookie manager, allowing you to accept all, none, or some 'non-third party' cookies on a site-by-site basis, option to decide on a period of validity for some cookies, option to prevent any script from accessing any cookie, 'Prefix Filter' which allows you to remove the prefix from any url, so no site could ever use this technology to know where you're coming from. **********Last tab is called 'Access Control', which allows you to block any url you may decide to and redirect it to another address you specify (e.g. could be 127.0.0.1) Password protected if needed, so the kids can't get around the sites-filtering options the pc owner has set up. Easy one-click access to surfing statistics, too, so you get to know the amount of 'junk components' WebWasher has blocked/intercepted. hi all tryed proxo navascope webwasher but i dont know how to work em so i dont use any though it would be nice to have a proxie make it that lil bit harder for nastys to get in my comp pluss help to make me invisable but between sb and za that provides me a resonalbey good messure of protection i hate complcated app like tds good app if ya can work it but i cant proxies and rule based firewall fall in to this catogory as well TOO DAM SMEGIN HARD TO WORK requiers lots or reading learing and fidling with for max protection all good and well if someone can tutor ya step by step on how to setup/use them but if ya a novice like me and ya dont got anyone to help ya out ya stuffed see inorded to understand apps like proxies ya need to understand all the terminology so that ya know what everythin does also tryed jap but cant get it to work with sb 4.75 proerly so after a while of trying i gave up and dumped it mabe ill try again when thay next update it nite all
