PrivateFirewall 7.0.26.3 - late access warning

Hi there,

I actually have not noticed this in previous versions,
but it struck me after updating to this new version
without re-importing the old settings.

PF asks for access permission when I open a program, ok.
Now I take the programm Malwarebytes as an example:
MBytes was recognized correctly when first opened.
Now I went online for a signature update.
MBytes was happily downloading when finally a message
popped up that an application attempts to access the internet.

Trying this with other programs, they hooked up to the internet
before that allow/deny-warning came.

Ok, I re-imported my old settings, but PF leaves a bad feeling.

 

Were any of the other programs in the Trusted Publishers list which are allowed by default?

Keep in mind that with the default settings, programs with valid digital signatures are allowed unless you change the settings to alert you to all new outgoing connections (regardless of the "trusted publisher" status).

I understand this as to set
Settings -> Basic -> Manual Control Require...
and
Always display alerts for new outgoing connections (which came, but too late).

Must have gone unnoticed here.

You can use the "alert to all new outgoing connections" in both "default" and "manual" mode.

I use it with "default" on my wife's computer since she has little need for high security.

I use it with "manual" mode on mine since I'm more security conscious.

You can also go into the "trusted publishers" list and remove entries as needed.

It's worthwhile downloading the user manual from the PWI website imho.
It makes a nice reference to have on hand from time to time...and the PWI folks are always available to answer support questions very quickly in my personal experience.
