AVC tested McAfee's Artemis cloud since February 2008.

The AV-C retrospective test should be redesigned for pure-cloud based apps because "freezing a 2-week old signature and testing against new malware to see how good the heuristic engine is" does not reflect cloud apps abilities. How many users are likely to be disconnected from the internet for 2 weeks. If Pandas heuristics are in the cloud the only thing tested would be the small offline cache of defs--not heuristics. Of course I may be wrong.

Let's see what excuse Panda will find for dropping out when Panda fares poorly.

To be consistent with the other products in the AVC tests, we will test Panda Antivirus Pro for the On-Demand/Retrospective and Panda Internet Security for the Whole-Product test.

If you opt in to using the Kaspersky Security Network then yes, you are using elements of "in-the-cloud", but this is in tandem with existing technologies. I personally never opted in.

It's good to see one of the company's that left AV C, Coming back to be tested. Can't wait to see all there hard work come out in numbers. :)

Don't worry about it, probably biased spouting. I'm rooting for Panda myself. It's (the cloud version at least) VERY easy on resources, and it's effective against PREVENTING infections, which is the most important part. I'd like to see its cleanup of infections do a bit better, and, if there isn't such in place as of yet, it really needs tamper/self protection. If it at least had the self protection, I would be even more comfortable with using it as I am now.

So happy to hear this. AV-Comparatives is my 1'st choice of effectivness test and Ive really missed Panda in here. I also think its a good move by Panda - at least a lot of Wilders Users dont use Panda because the dont really know, how they compare in detection.

Now if Trend Micro would join to, it would be perfect.

    Good news.

    F-Secure has cloud too.

F-Secure is the first anti-virus vendor in the world to release a real-time protection network for consumers that enables global protection within 60 seconds from the first confirmation of a new threat. This is based on F-Secure DeepGuard 2.0, a technology that uses "in-the-cloud" computing to provide instant protection against new threats. :argh:

it seems the excuses of other vendors is now null and void since now a vendor that previously didnt like AV-C testing methodology now acknowledges it.:thumb:

The chances are good. There will be changes at the top I think. Not for the better for some.
