Last month there was a 2-year license giveaway that I hosted on the forum. :)

I had the same problem. It kept freezing at 1%. I finally uninstalled it and installed AVG for now.

Is there a way to disable Cookie detection in the current release?

    TIA,
    François

I haven't tried this, but you could exclude the cookies directories from PCAV. In XP for IE I believe it's "C:\Documents and Settings\username\Cookies". You'd have to find out what it is for your specific combination of OS, SP and browser.

Just be careful not to exclude the temporary Internet files directory as that is normally a very active infection vector.

It showed Chrome cookies in the detection, not IE's.

By the way, I'm trying an Optimized scan this morning (yesterday it was a complete scan), and PCAV stopped scanning after 308 elements. (2%)
Two hours later, I finally hit the STOP button.
It asked if I really wanted to abort the scan, to which I replied Yes.
    Immediately started another Optimized scan.
This time it stopped after 305 elements.
    What's going on?

    Regards,
    François

P.S. Also running McAfee VirusScan + Anti-malware Enterprise here (office PC) and its log says PSANHost.exe is trying to write in the Registry at \REGISTRY\MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Services\McAfeeFramework and McAfee blocked it.
    Could that be the culprit?

P.S.-2 I added PSANhost.exe in McAfee's Registry modifications exclusion list and the scan worked correctly this time so it was the culprit. It would be nice if PCAV was displaying something when something wrong occurs.

We do have a tool that detects these problems at our support forum (www.cloudantivirus.com/forum) which we provide to users having problems. But yes it would be nice if it had a log of where it went wrong.

Regarding the problem itself, it is not recommended to run 2 different AV products in real time as conflicts such as these can happen.

The problem occured when running an on-demand scan, not when idle so, although I understand the warning, it isn't applicable in this issue.
I'd rather uninstall it altogether then, as I thought it was a nice AV-companion.

I've been running PCAV for over 6 months and haven't had any issues. If it's not advertised as a companion AV then...
You'll be fine with either one.

On a quick test it didn't detect it here. From Comodo's site the installer is cfw_installer.exe but on your image it shows a different name. Is it an older version? Please post the md5 of the file that was detected.

PS: cannot replicate. Installed PCAV 1.5.1 and allow it to run some time to synchronize, then downloaded and install CFW from official site. CFW downloaded and installed correctly and is functioning correctly. Please provide more info.

Same thing with that installer, cannot replicate:

PS: if you are going to run more tests to try to replicate, turn on advanced logging in PCAV's advanced options so that we can see what happens if you manage to replicate it.

    Is IDM causing the issue.
The name, as PBust says, is odd

    cfw_installer_x86_23\cfw_installer.exe

Never had a false positive yet with PCAV. On this rig Webroot SecureAnywhere has been a much different story at times. They seem to be improving though..

Definitely not a companion software and the warning is applicable as you unwittingly demonstrated.

Did the detection occur right after downloading the file from softpedia or was it laying around for quite some time?
If the file is old, have you had any infections in the past from file infecting viruses?
Did you have connectivity to the Internet when the detection occurred?
Where you running an on-demand scan or was it an on-access detection?

If its still there, open PCAV and recover the file from quarantine and then send me either the file (upload it to a file sharing site) or its md5.

The file was detected while it was downloading.Approx at the middle of downloading IDM reported that the file could not be downloaded and right away Panda poped-up with 1 virus neutralized.I then stopped Panda and re-downloaded the file, and again, the file wasn't in Panda's quarantine so nothing to recover.
