I have just checked my registered version via the update component and I am told I already have the latest update I know this is the old version do I just download the new one and then install as the internal update is not telling me about this? I have only recently purchased the firewall so am eligible for the updated version.

When I do get it is it an uninstall and then fresh install?

 

You will need to download the 2.5 version from http://www.agnitum.com/download/
I uninstalled, rebooted and then did a fresh install. The security center in XP now recognizes this new version. The 2.1 version is no longer being updated so it does not show in the updates.

They do that when new release is launched, to save server bandwith if i recall correctly. I have downloaded the new vers manually from the off. site it seems nice, be carefull it vipped out my email accounts.

I hope this just a freak inccident, i did a uninstall and then fresh install.

I hope this vers takes care of your hyperthreading issue.

Thanks to both of you. I have this downloaded and 'thought' a clean install would be best considering the HT issue and the fact of the Security Centre. I wish I was as quick as everyone else in uninstalling and then installing (I think far roo much about what could go wrong ) Definitely not a task for me to do tonight but I am looking forward to the fixes included in this new version

Don, I am worried about the e-mail bit was this after it installed and what actually happened?

Do I have to clean the registry and all sorts of things like that before the fresh install?

 

Probably just me being unlucky, but the first thing i did was to checked my email and it said that i did not have any account and if i i would like to set one up now! Which was slightly surprising

I did use registrycleaner.

 

At least I will be prepared although still shocked Thanks for the reg. cleaner info I really want to install the new version correctly.

 

Robyn, have you seen this from the Outpost forum info on installing Outpost.

 

I am a registered user and I must admit, kerio is out of my machine for good. this is perfect and only 10mb. much better. I am trying copycat now...

copycat and thermite where first blocked by processguard, I allowed it, and firewall is preventing the modification.

Robyn, I installed 2.5 over 2.1 because the program perform an uninstall of the previous version and then proceed to install 2.5, preserving only your previous settings.

 

When I made my earlier post I screwed up in stating that you cannot update from 2.1 to 2.5 through the updates function. I had read that in another place and did not verify that with the source. For that I am sorry and will try to never do that knowingly again. Paranoid made an excellent post on upgrading in the Outpost forum which can be found at

I realize Infinity was not making the point that OPv2.5 is lighter than OPv2.1, but is it?

 

My mind is trying to take all the uninstall - install details in. I still haven't done anything but have read the excellent post by Paranoid (he really does deserve a medal as he knows this firewall inside out and has certainly shared his knowledge)

Thanks to both forums and their members I am gaining knowledge of the best way to approach my installation. At least I have my router here should things go teribly worng and I need to seek advice without Outpost re-installed I just wish I didn't stop to think of all the problems and installed as everyone else has done

Just make sure you backup your preset.lst (if you customized it) and the .cfg files to a different folder. I think P2k had a post on that.
First I shut down all my other security apps including OP. Then I ran the install (without uninstalling first).
During the install, it uninstalls the previous version.
Then it gives you 3 choices for initial ruleset creation.
Automatic
(I forgot)
your previous ruleset

I chose option 3 because I spent a lot of time tweaking the rules (thanks to P2k's posts).

It works well so far. I upgraded before I read the post about backing up the preset.lst, so mine was wiped out. No big deal though.

Go for it.

 

Robyn, sorry i am the one who has made this unsure.

I ended up doing a format/reinstall, but i'am pretty sure my install problem where due to another program, which i had uninstalled and that didn't go well.

Since the second install, everything has been smooth sailing and i must say that i like the new one a lot, it has the same layout with new "toys".

Thank you Devinco for the extra info (will copy this) and follow it for my 'big' install day!!! Don't worry Don I am 'unsure' anyway when it comes to removing and installing security programs. Thanks for posting back and making me really want to get my install done now that you have made the new one sound ever so cool

I am going to copy and print all of the advice and hopefully everything will go well for me as it will soon be my turn
