Opera 15

Sticking with v12.15 for the time being...I like to have my bookmarks.

Well, what precisely do "we" want? You know it's practically impossible to please everyone when it comes to browsers to begin with. Add in a long time loyal, sometimes rabid user base, and it just becomes even more impossible. I very honestly think, and I can't believe I'm about to jump on this bandwagon, they released too quickly. Perhaps even before Blink itself was suitable for use. As far as I know Chrome still has a ways to go before it's full on Blink, and that's with the company creating Blink in the first place deciding to wait. I could make complaints all day about what the new Opera doesn't do to my liking, but in their defense they had to do something. Opera was getting buggier and buggier, and slower and slower, and people just forgot it existed outside of its hardcore fans. That's not a good way to survive on the internet we have today.

 

I think Blink is working well personally. I have also discovered that 'folders' can be made with the speed dial icons. I just can't understand why I like Opera 15. I have a feeling that dumbing it down a bit was an astute move. It may not be to the liking of the Opera super-techy anoraks, but it seems very fast easy to use. It's not Maxthon though.

 

I am starting like this version, now I have the option to click to play plug-ins.
The delete cookie on exit bug still is there because when i start up opera the list of cookies are always there unlike firefox.bookmarks dont bother me,if I like a website I simply click on the stash or what i call the love button or speed dial easy as abc,now if they implement the block contents it would be total win for me.

 

What we want ? Where Preferences ? where Buttons ? Where Customization ? Toolbars ?

 

I'm so used to deleting everything manually from Chrome that that wouldn't bug me. Why Chrome is still refusing to fix or care about data deletion on exit is beyond me. Stash does seem like it'll be far more useful than Speed Dial for mass site collecting, even if that's not quite what they had in mind.

Block contents? I suppose you mean frames, etc. It does allow you to block 3rd party cookies (if that actually works), and the ad blocker is evidently working well.

 

I think the browser is quite nice in these area's...

1. The interface looks and feels clean
2. It's pretty responsive with simple browsing, opening menus, media, etc.
3. The extension library is still there and growing

For it's first release, it lacks a ton of basic functions, such as no bookmark manager, can't add custom toolbars, can't add a custom homepage, can't add a simple home button, etc.

I'm going to stick around though, because I still believe they still have it in them.

Let's see what they got for us next.

But, in it's current state, It's quite featureless, and I really do hope this grows into something special once again.

 

It's difficult to judge whether or not Blink is suitable because there is a lot to it and most of it we can't see. They can keep the folders thing, that was one of the reasons I dropped IE 10 with that ridiculous "folder bookmarks" stuff. The tech guys definitely have things to complain about, because that thing is basically naked as far as options go. The nice thing about that is new converts won't miss what used to be. Not to derail the subject, but I just can't get into Maxthon. Reading the forums doesn't help matters, developers seem "lost" *shrug* But anyway, I might give Opera another go in time. My first two shots just left a bitter taste I guess.

 

Well, it isn't the Presto Opera of yesterday, it is a new animal entirely. It's difficult to predict what will happen to it in the future. It has a nice feel to it, if that counts for anything. I now have WOT installed as well. I'm not as horrified as I thought I'd be with this new Opera browser. I think that there is a bookmark extension for those who prefer the more traditional approach. It will be interesting to see how this browser develops.

 

My question is: it was so arduous make it in the first release ?

 

im still on opera 12.15 and i have it highly customized - in this new version of opera all ability to customize is gone? as in, mouse gestures, toolbar/button placement etc? if so why would they do such a thing? thats what made opera, opera

 

speed dial instead of bookmarks bar? it's far more easy to click directly on the bookmarks bar to go where you want, instead of opening a new page and searching through the speed dials. i really can't understand this approach.
after using Opera as my main browser for years, it seems i have to find something else.

 

I've just discovered the mouse gestures, they seem to work well. There is this bookmark manager extension, but I haven't tried it yet. I doubt I'll need it. I'm ambivalent about the lack of traditional bookmarking as I had far too many on old Opera anyway.

 

I understand the attempt and the work of Opera's developers to modernize and to enhance the browser, and I appreciate the new, faster engine , but it seems that they have married the dominant trend of like smart phone GUI with the new speed dial, as Microsoft makes with 8.

 

It seems that quite a few people are having problems with the PDF plug-in. Opera has an extension for that though based on the Mozilla reader I believe.

 

Opera 12.15 has click to play plugins if you enable it in options.
at this time I refuse to move to opera 15. the main reason I use opera is the feature inbuilt which other browsers require addons for and the integration of those features. I thought the idea of using the chrome engine was to freeup their devs to work more on their GUI and features yet instead they throw out all the features which made it different.

The mobile version of opera with webkit is mega slow on my phone and freezesalot.the oldversion worked great on the same phone.

You cannot compare windows 8 with opera 15. windows 8 still has the same features as windows 7 including the full desktop. Opera 15 on the other hand has hardly any of the features of opera.15 and should still be in alpha.

It seemed to me that opera was one of the sane browser companies. I liked the fact they only released new versions when ready rather than for the sake of it unlike chrome and firefox.
I hope opera support 12.15 for as long as it takes for them to sort out the mess that is opera 15.

 

In all honesty, although Opera 15 could almost be viewed as an advanced beta, it has only one bug that I can find. That's the PDF problem, although this can be remedied with an extension.

 

This is probably the smoothest browsing experience I've had, ever (Page loads, Media, Menus)

It also feels very clean to me

Now, if it just had a lot more features, this would replace my current browser.

 

I must admit that I am quite impressed with certain aspects of Opera 15, & I was convinced that I wouldn't be. It will be interesting to see which features are brought back or added.

ok, it' s nice but this seems to be just Google Chrome with a new skin.

even the settings preferences are almost identical to Chrome...

 

Yeah, it does have the same rendering engine though (more or less). I actually prefer it to Chrome.

 

It's too early for me to try it. But if it never gains bookmarks, I'll never be interested.

BTW... Is Unite still there? I sincerely hope not. Such a bad idea!

 

I might check it out again. Will they keep supporting the 12.x branch at least for a while?
