The Chubb’s Third Annual Cyber Report reveals employee education is key for small businesses to prevent cyberattacks. Even with headline after headline about the latest data breach, people are not encouraged to defend against their cyber exposure.
The goal of the report is to determine the level of understanding individuals have about their cyber risks. While at the same time looking at the steps they are taking to protect themselves.
2019 Cybersecurity Risk Statistics
In the study, 70% of the respondents say their company has “excellent” or “good” cybersecurity practices. But only 31% of them receive annual company-wide training or updates from their employer.

Considering employee education lies at the core of the cybersecurity problem, more needs to be done. And the lessons they receive have to be from a reliable source. Because the survey says more than a third are learning about protection against cybersecurity risks from mainstream media (35%) and family and friends (34%).

Yeah, I'm not sure if that as bad a thing as the headline makes it out to be. If you are one of 31% that has to suffer through annual corporate cybersecurity training, you know just how painful it can be. It's usually stuff like "don't leave sticky notes with your password on them next to your monitor." They can be so trivial and condescending. Ugh. On the other hand, I guess I get it... not everyone is great with computers or knows the basics. But to have to watch this stuff once a year along with all of the other compliance stuff is just agonizing.

41% of UK Workers Haven’t Received Adequate Cybersecurity Training

An average of 41% of UK employees across all sectors have not received adequate cybersecurity training, which is leaving businesses and individuals vulnerable to attacks, according to a new study by Specops Software. Travel and hospitality was the sector with the worst record, with 84% of staff stating they have not received sufficient training.

The survey of 1342 businesses across 11 different sectors in the UK also discovered that 69% of workers in education and training have not received adequate cybersecurity training from their employers, with the figure 56% for those in customer service, 47% in marketing, advertising and PR, 42% for medical and health, and 37% in the creative arts and design sector.
