Will Emsisoft complete the 64-bit version of Online Armor?

    Thanks in advance.

Will Emsisoft honor unused licenses? I'm currently using a freebie promotion license, but I purchased two 5 dollar licenses which I plan to use at the beginning of the new year (2011). I assume they start to count when I activate them in the license key box inside the program.

Will you still provide the users with a FW only 64 bit tool WITHOUT your imbedded AV?

For myself I want/need to pick my own AV.

Sure! Online Armor Premium edition will remain as is too. Even when we release the x64 version (soon).

What is your approach to testing on the 64 bit version?

By this I mean do you have new or different approaches and or additional testing resources?

A premature release is I hope not looming?

Testing at a detail level is NB is it not?

Escalader, think about what you are asking. No reputable vendor would deliberately do a premature release. Not to say it can't happen, but you question implies a deliberate action. Inappropriate question, that doesn't deserve an answer.

    Hi Pete:

That is your opinion. My question stands.

I'm simply asking questions about testing now that OA is in new hands. We all know that marketing forces sometimes overpower sensible vendors.

I will wait for the vendor to answer in his own good time.

I guess I am wondering why this is a good thing.
The trouble with selling a product into another corp/solution
is that the once nice program gets clogged with plumbing
that slows it down or turns it into a system cow. I stopped
using ZA for that reason. I also stopped using comodo because it clogged my system up.
I just removed Outpost Pro because it had a large footprint, although it was
worlds better than ZA and comodo.

In my happy world, a firewall is just simple clean code that watches the ports for access,
an anti-virus program is simple clean code that watches for virus signatures, and an
anti-malware program is simple clean code that watches for malware activities.
Now, if only the programmers would keep it that way.

With Emsisoft, you now have a choice of:

    OA Free
    OA Premium
    OA ++ (with AV/Antimalware)

Christian has said that the product lineup won't be changing for now, though he has said a completely new suite product may come at some time in the future. I can't talk to the future of OA any more, but as to why it's a good thing - it comes down to focus.

These days I'm consulting and working on CRM solutions. Emsisoft's sole focus is on the security business.

Testing is always done in the following sequence here:

    1. The development team (which is now far bigger than before) implements new features like x64 support and tests on their own machines until they can't find any more bugs.

    2. Then the product is released to an internal testing team. They check everything until they can't find any more bugs too.

    3. Then the product reaches public beta test level. Everyone joining our beta team can get it then. Majority of testing procedure is already over before the public beta starts. The product is tested mainly for incompatibilities in real-world scenarios. Developers usually focus on creating workarounds for other developer's dirty code incompatibilities. ;)

    4. Product release.

I can't say this is bad news.

I've used some of Emsisoft's products, namely Mamutu and A-squared Free.
    Both are very reliable.

In my opinion, I think it was a good move by Mike.

    Hi Christian:

Thanks for responding to the question on testing.

One thought I had for you was to have your developers look at posts on the user forum(s) of existing W7 64 bit FW products. By doing this they may be able to get a sneak preview of the future when product goes beta.;)

I now use this method in selecting security software it helps a lot!

Let us hope that you will decide to work a bit on the OA firewall component and offer us some of the flexibility of Outpost Pro or Comodo - then OA, with its already excellent HIPS, would be a trully fabulous product.

This is exactly the type of post that a vendor can check out and improve quality if only clarifying documentation.
Best to post this on their site as well.

Au Contrare, but this post will do nothing to improve anything. EMSI is in the process of integrating OA folks into their bug reporting system. A proper bug report is what will matter.
