NOD32 updates via Cache

Last week I posted a thread for updating of ESET NOD32 via the command prompt this wasn't possible. The option where:

1. Change the update scheduler manually
2. Export the registry from a computer that has the scheduler set to 1 minute and import it again. Reboot and it will update every 1 minute.

I have been looking more closely into this and what we have found is the following:

If we have 2 computers installed with the Same version of NOD32 but computer A has updated till today and computer B doesn't have update since it installed. Computer B is not on the network how can we then update computer B?

We found out if we copy all the *.dat files from computer A so from C:\Program Files\ESET\ESET NOD32 Antivirus\*.dat to computer B C:\Program Files\ESET\ESET NOD32 Antivirus\ and when we reboot the computer B. The signature date will change to the same date as computer A. If we then update from new files from our mirror the system will update correctly.

Isn't this create (but also a bit weird)?

 

You'll need to purchase Business Edition (minimum number of lic. is 5) in order to be able to create a mirror for offline update. Copying only dat files will not help as the information about installed module/engine versions are stored in the registry.

 

Well we have the business version that is not the problem.

And we can't create a mirror due our special update setup created by 2 of ESET Programmers.

But If we copy the DAT files reboot and check then in Help About all settings are the same as in PC A. including version number etc.

Even if we check the regsitry we see that is has changed.

 

Any reply on my message?

We have done it in a VM and on live computers. And after copying the DAT files the registry is identical! So why shouldn't this work sure it is not the perfect situation but our situation is far from perfect so it is only a procedure that will be done when there is a real problem.

 

Updates in less than 60 minutes are not possible even if the scheduler doesn't warn if one sets such an interval.

If copying dat files and restarting the computer works to update computers that are not connected to network, you can use it, but we do not officially support it.

 

Are we both talking about Version 3 here?

We just tested the scheduler with a 5 minute schedule and it updates every 5 minutes when we set such a schedule. This is done via the internet or via a local mirror both update fine every 5 minutes.
