Not to rain on your picnic lol, but could you possibly expand a bit more on this release with some additionals? As perhaps a website (if any) where this data was actually drawn from and maybe your own personal comparisons to better enlighten those of us who have been in silence regarding the ongoing development of this HIPS.

A simple ~clip~ from that URL produced only a 403 Forbidden for me

    Thanks EASTER

A very important (at least to me) question - will it work properly under limited (standard) user account?

    Hello Easter,
MD now belongs to '360 Labs.' (-http://labs.360.cn/-).The software has been stringently maintained since it was released free to the public. The only place, Wilders Security aside, where it is discussed at length is their own forum, but it is in Chinese Han.

Thanks for that prompt clarification datarishik really appreciated.

Being a really Severe HIPS loyal (replaced AV's altogether in place of EQS for the longest time without a single prob.).......you can understand my interest in Malware Defender project. ;)

.....and by the way. It would surely be useful if there was some form of a detailed help guide. Not sure if there is short of our forum discussion when this puppy was all the buzz. If not, that's expected since EQS also fell woefully short of offering a user's manual but enough of us gathered in the trenches together to pick apart every detail that could be useful and we were not disappointed in the least. Alcyon was instrumental in really helping devise amazing rulesets for EQS while that HIPS was all the buzz for awhile and before AV vendors finally seen the light of integrating them into their products & services.

You're welcome. I've got a set of rules (Ruleset) for MD. I'm not sure where I had got it from, but I think that as a HIPS enthusiast you might find it useful.

I have uploaded it here: -http://www.2shared.com/file/F7CUPkcQ/MD_Ruleset.html?-
So grab it while it's there.

I've found a very simple manual. Maybe, it's from my previous installation.

    Here it is: -http://www.2shared.com/file/dXAERjUA/MalwareDefender.html-

This manual is "empty" for me. MD has build-in help which looks enough detailed to me.

Correct! This version of MD has exactly the same CRC hash (88B515F4) as the version I downloaded on 1/11/2012.

This thread doesn't present a new MD. What is this thread then? A promo? Spam? Honest mistake? What? :cautious:

Sorry, my bad and terrible mistake. Actually, I was browsing through -kafan.cn-, and in there I touched upon the thread discussing this new version of MD. Somehow it occured to me that it had been posted today, and therefore this confusion.

Additional rules of MD can be also found here:-http://bbs.kafan.cn/thread-309224-1-1.html-

    Mods may delete this.

Which is the case here? Is MD freeware, free trial, or payware? Which versions of Windows is it still compatible with?

Hey, just read the replies and many thanks for the users guide and expecially the ruleset for MD. I dunno about the supposed posted update as i haven't installed that version yet, but will monitor this post to see what turns out.

Me too. I'm thinking my eventual move to x64 may be via Linux. ;)

@zerotox: I run MD under a limited account. The only "issue" is that I had to grant write permissions for my limited account to MD's various data files (rules, logs, etc) in order for any changes to persist between reboots.

I had to move to 64 bits because of gaming. 2GB of ram is not enough nowadays, so i upgraded to 4GB a few months ago.

32bit can handle nearly 4gig - 64bit and more than 4gb has no effects on 32bit
software - it is still limited on 4gb. you need real 64bit programs to have advantages.

if your game is still 32bit there is no effect for more than 4gig.
