Hi, every once in a while I see guests posting at different forums that don't allow guest posting. One is spywareinfoforum.com. There are a few others too and I wonder how those individuals are able to posts at those sites without first signing up as a member. Does anyone have any idea how this is done? Thx.

some sections of spywareinfoforum.com allow guest posting and other dont. from the forum index, just look beneath the section heading and it will say whether guests can post. e.g. the "SpywareInfo Web Site, Forums, and Newsletter" and "Pacman" section do allow guests to post.

Thanks WSFuser, but that's not the case here because I have tried logging in these forums myself, as a guest, and it will not allow me to post. It will tell me to sign in first, so I know for sure there is no guest posting allowed at these sections of the websites.

In some forums the postings of deleted/banned members are labeled as "guest"-postings afterwards. Could this also be the case here?

Nope, because the posts are very recent and are ongoing even now. When it is a "guest" of this type you can always tell because it will say the word "Guest" in very small letters, unlike the normal members names who are much bolder in print and slightly larger, so it's defenitely not just a member with the name Guest.

I have seen discussions between these "guest" members and regular members who often call them cowards, or something similar, for not joining the forums. Yet the mods never delete the posts or say anything about it.

It seems somehow these clever guests have found a way to post at various forums, where no guest posting is allowed. I'm not sure how they get away with it, but it certainly appears they have found a way through the normal sign up procedure somehow.

I realize that some areas of certain websites like Spywareinfo allow guest posting, but this was not one of those areas where I saw the guest posts, it was in the software forum at Spywareinfo, and they were the thread starter too. Besides I'm not only talking about Spywareinfo, I've seen these same guest type posting at a few other sites and they have no guest posting allowed in the whole forum.

I'm guessing that at Spywareinfo there was a period that Mike allowed anyone to post, when he was having problems with the servers, by putting in a name and then using something like the word password to log in, I forgot now exactly what, and maybe he forgot to disallow it and now some people are using that to log in as guests. I'm just guessing that this is how this is happening. Either that or they've discovered some type of flaw that they're taking advantage of in the sign-in process.

Ok, here's three examples of guest posting in a forum or a part of that forum where guest posting is NOT allowed. Just try for yourself to log in those parts of the forum and post as a guest, you can't.

http://www.oldversion.com/talk/showthread.php?t=947 This post was made at oldversion when guest posting had been already discontinued long before this time. Here's a post saying when exactly guest posting was stopped at oldversion.
    http://www.oldversion.com/talk/showthread.php?t=2759

Here's a guest post at Spywareinfo in the software forum where NO guest posting is allowed. http://www.spywareinfoforum.com/index.php?showtopic=59397

And here's a guest post at a music site forum where NO guest are supposed to be allowed to post either. http://forums.sky.fm/showthread.php?t=3481

So how are these guests posting at these forums if NO guest posting is allowed? These are only a few of the many guests posts like this I have seen around and not are all as nice as those guests were. It just seems really odd to me that some people have figured out a way to post at forums where it is not supposed to be allowed.

Ok the first link I provided was a mistake, the dates are correct. Guest posting was allowed at oldversion at that time. But the other links are valid examples of guests posting where they shouldn't be able to post.

maybe the forums used to allow guests but then disabled that policy. u could also just contact the webmaster or create a dummy account then contact an admin to find out.
