You might want to consider that one bad experience a couple of years ago can hardly speak for the quality of a product today.

It's 19,95€ here (5cnt cheaper than IS  ) but this: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Kaspersky-Antivirus-1-PC-2012-2013-2014-1-Jahr-Schutz-/271262274910 seems to be legit. Im sure popularity is speaking for itself.

we have had clients keys get blocked when they were bought in the usa and then they went to europe for say 2 months or something like that. they had to contact kaspersky and tell them they have to travel for work and they did something to prevent it from happening again but yes it has happened. and i do not mean offense to anyone but kis is NOT light no where near it. we have had SO MANY clients come back when we used to sell it after we installed it asking us to remove it. because of the slowdowns. this was up till 2013 and yes i have tested 2014 and i see some improvement but not enough and now they dumbed it down. i always say if you want one of the best detection wise you can get then yes kis is it. but i have tried it on so many systems (yes i have tried 2014 so please do not try to convince me 2014 is this new and crazy light av now its not)and i can not call it at all light. detection yes, light no

This is exactly what happened to me: I bought a boxed KIS in 2005 in Milan, after installing and activating it in Seoul, I discovered that the key was blacklisted. Support told me I had to return the package where I bought it... I lost my money, they've lost a customer.

Z, you are exactly right. It is better but not quite there yet for long term usage. Actually Eset 7 is also heavier. I have reverted back to 6.

Well I've been trialling KIS 2014 for a week now and it's seems fine so far. No system slow down, a setup and leave to it type of product which I like.
I do a lot of online shopping and banking so do like features like safe money, which works well. Only annoyance I've had was after installing, the update took ages to download.

My paid Avast IS sub was coming to an end and was becoming annoying as hell with pop ups advertising extra features to pay for. One reason I buy a security suite is to avoid the nagging ads!

Also started to to install Comodo IS, but when I had to untick a box for it not to install a PUP I aborted!

So at the moment, KIS is the winner for me.

I do not have any personal stake to take offense but I do not agree, at least from my experience. Did you try it with other products installed? KIS conflicts heavily with other products. I do realize it does not run the same on everyone's machine. Just a thought as to what might be causing the problem. I've currently got it on 2 personal machines and 14 work machines and nobody is complaining.

See, that's the problem we have here; some users say it is light, others, like you, say it isn't. And it's all because of this thing called a computer, which seems to differ from one person to another with its many configurations.

There has to be a reason why it appears to be not light on your systems, and yet for someone else it does. It would be fascinating if someone could do an analysis of the many configurations to try determine why, but alas, that is too time consuming to do.

All software seems to garner different results for different people.

For the record, I'm not using KIS 2014, but when I tested it, it seemed light to me, but then I wasn't using anything else in real-time, and that was on a Windows 7 64-bit system with 4GB RAM.

After my trial expired today, I managed it to purchase a one-year KAV license for just $14 in my country.

Resellers are the real deal :D

okay let me explain my "performance" testing. EVERY AV i test is tested on a full WORKING machine NOT a vm. i do zero testing with av's on a vm. every av i test is tested the SAME way i format the whole drive re-install windows (7 or 8 depending on which im testing it on at that time) and the drivers needed ONLY. i take baseline performance tests and note those all down only after that is done i then i install the av then nothing else. nada zip zilch. i have multiple systems set up for testing. when i test a av is is also done so on 4 different systems with different hardware setups. one is a intel based i5 laptop. second is a intel based i7 / asus mb setup desktop, third is a amd fx based am3+ desktop, and last a amd a10 based laptop. this should cover most configs out there the average user is working with.

once my windows setups are ready i run all of the performance tests on a baseline windows install WITHOUT the av at all. then i run them through the exact same tests after the av is installed. this way i have a baseline and a post av test. (did i say i was thorough when testing av's).

once those are done i then go to every day tests. i use each system as my daily go to system for daily use as to monitor how each system responds BOTH WITH AND WITHOUT the av.

i can state honestly i do not skew anything and this is my same method with each av. for me in doing this on ALL 4 systems kaspersky is simply not light. i also have had more calls to remove kis than any other av we have sold our clients over the last 2 years because they stated it slowed the systems down (mainly business' that did not like the change after we installed kis). i do not favor anyone in these tests either. some of my former favorite av's got heavier and heavier and i dropped them over the years. i take the tests done by companies with a grain of salt anymore because in every day use i just dont see their results most times at all. ill take my real world results any day.

i do not post a whole report or state a vs b here at all just wanted to explain for those that read when i say a av is heavy or light how i come to those conclusions.

Well my KIS trial may of hit a snag. Had 2 complete system freezes recently. Not sure of the cause, but PC was very stable before, so uninstalled and trying Eset.

"Seems" being the key word here. Though I have to admit its 2014 version is the lightest so far.

Peformance reports never acknowledge the actual amount of work the product does. Hence, in terms of performance, a mere checksum scanner will always beat other products with more in-depth analysis methods. Kaspersky is definitely one of the most thorough products out there and it still shows very good results in these tests.

Trust me or not, Kaspersky 2014 gets -13 sec on boot compared to NIS/Avast!!

And this is with it setup like this,

    http://i.imgur.com/s83P8Wj.png

And this is the boot time,

    http://prntscr.com/2u13u0

Look at the measurement from the last graph, it show improvement of 13 seconds, after i installed KIS! (clean install) the program which i'm using, its called Bootracer, owners of light AV, go and try to beat my boot :)

Also no slow downs what so ever, but keep in mind i have all browsers addons expect the virtual keyboard disabled.
