Is 4.2.71.2 the "go-to" version from the v4 series?

While I see that v5 is out - but I am not ready to move to it yet. I am currently running 4.2.40.0 on a fresh Windows 7 Pro 64bit install that's just a week old.

Was wondering if the very latest is the best in this case or was there another version that was rock solid (or had better features) than 4.2.40.0 - which has been stellar here and has presented no issues.

Perhaps I already have the best? Appreciate any insights or tips from the field.

I, for one, wouldn't go for an older version as the latest one should have most of the reported issues fixed.

 

Well - "should" does not necessarily mean "is". For the record - I did try to update to 4.2.71 about two months back and it resulted in a completely trashed ESET install.

Is there a "de-facto" method for correctly installing a newer version. Is it recommended to do an "in-place" or do I have to first completely uninstall the prior and then reinstall the new one?

The latest build (4.2.71.2) did not have any problems with people installing when it was releaced.

Well.. no more than any other build, which is a very, very, small percentage.

Having said that, your current build will be fine, unless you appreciate something that has been fixed in a more recent build, listed here:

Any comments on best practices for install? Install over top of a current build or strip the machine back to clean and start fresh?

I always start fresh

 

clean install is always the best way, use Eset uninstaller and not Add/remove program or Win 7 uninstaller

 

Does the ESET uninstaller actually take out everything? I thought it was a safe mode only DOS type program.

The official instructions I have seen on the web site send a ton of message messages saying use Add/Remove Programs one minute and then the ESET utility the next.

Why can they just make a universal method that is done properly just one way?
