    Hi.
I'm thinking in migrating from Office 2003 to OpenOffice, and I want a good replacement for Outlook. It has to have excellent IMAP support.
I'll probably use Thunderbird, since I use it when I'm under linux and I also use the portable version, BUT I'd like to know if there are other good/better options for IMAP.

Also, I'd like an app that handles calendar and tasks. Maybe I'll try Sunbird. Are there any other FREE options out there? I know there is a Evolution version for Windows now.

Please comment WHY you feel an app is good or bad.

HURST, since you already know and have worked with Thunderbird, take a look at Lightning 0.8, a Sunbird add-on. Read the reviews. I use Sunbird, all by itself, which is a fine application as well.

Just to throw in a different approach, I suggest that you use your preferred web browser as email client, and Gmail as IMAP service.
Google also comes with a calendar, which can be shared with your team members.

And if you would evaluate Google Chrome, you will be amazed by it's speed.

I tried Barca a couple of years ago and was very impressed: http://www.pocosystems.com/home/ Unfortunately ended up going to Outlook for calendar-specific reasons, but it looks like Barca has made significant calendar improvements since then.

Agreed, fast reliable and handles multiple accounts the best.

You might consider this option as it is becoming more and more viable as google develops features that allow you to use their apps offline. Have a look at google gears.

Actually I use GMail because I have that account for years, but I try to use as few google products as I can. Just mail and search engine, and cookies always blocked/deleted.
