As title really. I have read in some posts within this forum that Kaspersky have anti malware detection. At the moment I used NOD32 v2.5 and AVG AS v7.5. If I switch to Kaspersky AV or IS v6 would I really need AVG AntiSpyware v7.5 anymore?

Doubtfull, i have both, but AVG/ewido anti-spyware has never detected anything Kaspersky didn't do first exept for on a heavily infected pc i cleaned for a friend where it detected a variant of one of the large (in size) malware families.

Nothing wrong with an extra layer though. :)

Really - are you saying that Ewido/AVG AntiSpyware covers enough to completely avoid using another AV software program?

either nod & avg as + a firewall
    or KIS

decide your route, that you wish to take

    Absolutely NO!
AVG AS/ewido is antispyware which doesn't cover everything . Softwares such as KAV and NOD32 covers all kind of threats whereas AVG AS/ewido covers non-viral malware and some chosen viral ,
which means that ewido will detect and remove adware/spyware/hijackers/dialers but chosen worms and trojans . Ewido was and still is promoted as additional layer of protection , not the most important .

And my opinion , Ewido is excellent .You can use it as additional second opinion :thumb:

eh? He's suggesting moving from NOD to Kaspersky. Both are excellent programs however I would keep Antispy installed (but not necessarily resident) as a 2nd layer of defence. However it all depends on your surfing habits. It has been years since I have been infected by anything. It's only happened twice.

I have KIS and my AVG anti-spyware only detects tracking cookies, but I keep it anyway just in case :thumb:

no, avg antispyware doesnt have as good detection overall as kaspersky and nod32,

but if you add that... with avg antivirus, as in the suite... detection must be good :D

No ..im saying that if you switched to kaspersky ,then nod and avg antipsyware would probably be supplementary or surplus to requirements.

    Thanks for the advices.

I am seriously considering leaving NOD32 and Ewido (as my licenses due to run out soon). Also want to try a suite instead of a 2 app approach.

Also influencing my decision making is the special Xmas offer of buy one get one free for both Kaspersky AV or IS (http://www.kaspersky.co.uk/santa2006)

I am under the impression that an AT does clean better than an AV. If that is true, it might be well to have AVG AS or a-squared as an on-demand scanner. Is that correct?

Probably it would help if your machine were infected, but I doubt it would be infected with KAV or other good AV. I would not buy one with KAV.

i think with kaspersky advanced disinfection technology it should be able to get rid of all the trojans by forceing a reboot and getting rid of it.

There's no harm in keeping the free version of AVG as an on-demand, KAV will probably stop most threats in real time, but if one did get through, AVG antispyware is better than any antivirus at cleaning the registry entries and minor changes that spyware creates IMHO.

Yes , of course . AVG AS is dedicated antispyware software . Antivirus softwares are dedicated against viral malware ;)

I agree, and I would leave AVG Anti-Spyware installed as on demand since it doesn't cost anything. I'm just querying the benefits of having both as resident on access scanning, whether or not that is overkill :-D

I wouldn't think so, KAV/KIS 6 is pretty heavyduty when it comes to malware detection. I personally, wouldn't feel the need to have an additional antispyware program.

Since I have a "lifetime" license for "Ewido" I am running KAV6 and AVG AS as resident applications. I have experienced no conflicts. However, I don't think I would buy an "AT" along with KAV as it has a high detection rate for trojans and other malware.

For a long time I have wondered if an AT is needed with an AV with high detection rates for trojans. The removal after infection makes me at least want an on-demand scanner.
