I Think I have a battery problem on my Sony VAIO laptop

    I think you do but it depends on the store where you bought it.. Sometimes they accept an invoice or proof of payment (a bank statement for example).

    But I can only speak for Dutch stores, I don't know how convenient US ones are in these kind of situations :).

    If she charged up the laptop's battery with an AC adapter even, though the battery is inside and fully charged will it affect the laptop itself or only if the battery dies? Will it ruin the battery due to over usage or put her laptop at risk in other ways then just the battery?

    I've never heard of the laptop itself damaging, only the battery.

    If you keep using the ac adapter and the battery is still inside. The only thing that will happen, is decreasing the lifetime of a battery.

    With a damaged battery and an ac adapter connected can cause fire or an explosion. But that chance that battery cells are damaged are very rare.

    Be also very careful with cheap batteries and safety, the amount of charge sessions. But you can have luck with your no-brand battery.
