    Hello,

I need your help to temporarily disable Avira Free AV, in order to succeed in installing Windows 7 SP1. I would appreciate your suggestion.

I have not used Avira in years but can you right click the icon on the task manager and is there an option in the Avira umbrella there you can toggle the real time protection on/off?

OK this is the reboot method....

Use an Autostart program, find the autostart entry for Avira, untick the box, and reboot.

On booting up no Avira. Do as you will, then open up the autostart program and re-tick Avira.

Reboot...magic. Avira is up and running again.

This is the way I uninstall Firewalls and AV programs prior to upgrading to a new version.

There are various freeware autostart programs around.....

Autoruns by Sysinternals here.....http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/bb963902 ] but the program that is the simplest is

Mike Lins Startup control panel....here...... http://www.mlin.net/StartupCPL.shtml

I suggest the stand alone exe [the other adds a control applet to Windows Control panel. That's OK, but the standalone exe is more direct. As it is a portable just put it into a random folder say C/programs/mikelin, and right click to add a shortcut to your desktop.

    cheers,
    feandur
