I really hate how eset makes you give them so much personal info to get their AV. I value my privacy and I think an AV company would understand that, but I guess not. I bought a copy at a local computer store but it still makes me go online to give my activation key along with requiring all the information. Is there anyway to get around all of this nonsense? Like maybe a link to bypass that form?

(Yes, I know I could input false information, but I don't like having to do that.)

then buy a retail box and activate it - oh - same problem.

You can't get away with it unless you provide false information.

We have had people do that in our online store... I cancel the orders. Sorry, we don't abuse our customer information and respect every one of them - the information requested is to process a payment - nothing more.... those that use obviously fake information run the risk of being a credit-card chargeback waiting to happen - with ZERO chance of winning it from our end - so to prevent THEFT, we cancel the few orders that come in like that.

I am sure ESET must see a few more of these - the best I can recommend would be to buy retail, then activate using a made up name/address and a thow-away hotmail, or gmail account.

This could be against the ToU of the software though - please read that carefully. ESET, like us, does NOT sell, rent or otherwise abuse their customers' information - EVER.

Thanks, but do any known retailers sell a package that you can just install based on the in-package materials? Perhaps a business edition or something like that?

Anyone that has information, please chime in!

(Although I understand the concerns an *online* retailer must face, but just in case it wasn't clear... Eset already has my money. I bought it retail (physical) already, and have my activation code. (But apparently, having my money isn't enough for them -- they need to know what street I live on, too. ))

if you must just enter something in there. you will still get your user / password. the problem may arise later if or when you need support for your product. im sure you would be fine with providing them your info though.

Can you tell me from where?
As far as I know, they make all customers (online and physical) go through the activation step, which is where all the information is asked for.

I bought it from the Swedish distributor, I needed to give them my name, email adress, and phone number.

Yes I gave them my real name because I do trust the company ;)

Can you give me the link to the Swedish distributor? That's interesting - maybe it's different for overseas purchases.

As you wish -http://www.eset.se/kop/ . But I don't recommend you to buy from there though. And don't blame me if anything goes wrong. ;)

zfactor - I'm not going to spend double, I can just take it back, since I bought a retail copy. And even if I can't for some reason, it is good information to know.

Thanks Swex. Curious though why you don't recommend it? (What problems do you anticipate?)

Well I don't have a "bad experience" with them. It's very good actually :thumb:

It's just that if you would need support they wouldn't be able to give that to you since afaik you don't speak Swedish ?;)
That's the only reason why I don't recommend you to buy from there.

But of course you could always use Wilders if you need help :p

    Pextor -

"I really hate how eset makes you give them so much personal info to get their AV."

Sorry, but my memory doesn't serve me well enough to recall what personal info you're referring to.

Care to help an old guy out?
