Try a system restore...see what happens. It could have been an overload problem.

  3. Hi Maddawgz,

Go into Event Viewer and retrieve the event ID's under Application, then check what turn's up searching here ....
ht*tp://www.eventid.net/search.asp (I'll assist if you post them) ;)

Have you recently installed any new program's that may have over-written existing system file's?

Do the error's show up under a minimal-boot (XP right)?

Im not an expert on this (others on this forum definitely are though so if they agree with this then it is a viable option) but can you not just put in you XP install CD and choose to fix windows that way.

  5. Based on .... "Have you recently installed any new program's that may have over-written existing system file's?, I'd agree. Running scannow should recover any system files provided Maddawgz has either the XP cd with sp2 included or an integrated (slip-streamed) disc, otherwise window's file protection won't allow it without modifying the SFC_OS.DLL file.

So Maddawgz, exactly how are you sp2 .... included, slipped, or windows update?

  7. Maddawgz,

Your in the right location. What you want to do in Event Viewer is find all the red/white errors that show up for the date from your first screenshot (11-27-05), double click each one and post the Event ID number's.

What is the last item you installed prior to receiving these error's, Ewido? Is this when it all began?
Also please, give me two screenshot's (probably won't fit on one) of the Startup tab after entering msconfig into your runbox. ;)

And I can tell you right now SCANNOW's not going to work, but tell me .... are both cd's genuine M$ disc's, or is your sp1 cd an OEM?

  10. Hi Maddawgz,

I've seen plenty of threads with peep's experiencing similar problems as yourself, sorry to say solutions are almost alway's specific to an individual's array of installed soft. Prior investigation's have usually tagged responsible culprit's as misplaced/accessed .dll's or third-party driver's. One general starting point (as I understand) for troubleshooting system conflict's within XP is outlined here ....

    ht*tp://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;310560

You could start with this route .... opening msconfig, choosing "Selective Startup" then unchecking Load Startup Items to remove them all (you MUST clk Apply, then Close to set), thus providing a quick idea if in fact one of your entries are at fault. Providing all's OK, the next step would be to uncheck individual start item's one at a time from the "Startup" tab, rebooting for each one removed from the list. You'll want to check inside Event Viewer between boot's to review any errors window's may throw. *Remember to stay offline!*

I've had it rough in the past attempting this sort of assistance, but haven't given up that there's a better approach to all these mishap's .... one I'm trying to work through before passing on.

In the meantime I'd like you to take a look at the following and consider reducing a few of those un-needed startup entries, thereby allowing windows to *initialize* more effectively. I've only covered the pertinent one's, the rest you can research at your leisure .... http://castlecops.com/StartupList.html

One more favor there MD. ;)

Do the following offline, close all running applications that show up in Taskmanager!

1.) Open a runbox, enter sigverif - clk the Advanced tab and select "Look for other files that are not digitally signed."

2.) Under "Scan this file type:" clk it's dropdown and select *.sys

3.) For "Look in this folder:" browse and select your WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\DRIVERS folder, then go to the Logging tab.

4.) Inside Logging make sure the "Save the file signature verification results to a log file" and "Overwrite existing logfile"
dialog's are checked. Name it driversunsigned.txt > then OK > then *Start*

5.) When finished retrieve it from your Window's folder and attach as a text file from "Manage Attachments."

Be back as soon as I have something solid.

  12. MD,

Not as an outside file please. When you reply .... below your "Reply to Thread" frame you can attach a text file in place of a screenshot,
one of these allowed file types here on Wilder's (under "What Are Attachments?). Thank's. ;)
