gonna try my luck here, since zonealarm forums is no help so far.

problem,- for some reason ZA has stopped the ability to stream wmp 9-10 video from webpages.

streaming works in safe mode with network, also works if ZA is not loaded at startup. And works if ZA started some minutes after startup.

Does not work when ZA is loaded at startup, and shutting down ZA doesnt work.

    tried this:

in program control i set all access to wmp, and in options that other programs can launch it etc.

i also tried to delete all referense to wmp in controll, so that the warning\action would pop up. but no go.
opera and ie etc have the rights.

also i get the error when i open wmp and try to directly stream something from there.

0xC00D1198: Cannot connect to the server

ive tried everything i know for days now..

installed it again with "clean install"

C:\WINDOWS\Internet Logs and deleted the 2 .rdb files, to start fresh
then i okayed every program that asked for permission

subnet ip etc is in trusted zones.

deleted copernic desktop search, since i read google desktop had some problems

still the stream will not connect.

So after a few days of this, im about to give up.

Long time since ive researched firewalls, so i dont know what is a good alternative. but if the streaming doesnt work, ill have to buy another software, what is the next best thing to ZA pro?

    (not norton and symantec)

Did you give wmp the permissions it needs in the ZA ProgramControl/Programs? It might have to connect out to get the streams.

yes, ive tried that. Even giving it "super trusted" status. Im out of ideas, and i cant find the previous versions of the program.

a little harsh to throw away 50$ because the videostream doesnt work.

okay thanks..strange that this has happened so sudden.

always liked zonealarm, with the features. Maybe there is something to the rumour about getting worse after it was bought up.

Anything showing up in your logs that may shed some light on what the issue is?

What site are you streaming from? If you post it here, users can go to the site and see it it works for them and help you troubleshoot.

P.S. Saw your question on the ZA forums :)

well, no wmp streaming works on any page ive tried.

ifilm.com, with wmp set as player it just stops. Wmp interface saying "ready"

something is wrong here, since it works if ZA is loaded AFTER windows start.

I have ZA loaded at startup and it plays for me

    hxxp://www.vg.no/video/videoplayer/player.hbs

I'm guessing privacy protection is off on ZA?

well, i tried selective startup in msconfig. Only ZA and the other main programs, now streaming worked.

So then i selected 3 programs at a time in msconfig. and restarted to see what program caused the conflict.

Well, all the same programs, exactly as before are now running after 4 restarts.

and streaming works, have no idea how it got fixed, or how long it will last.

I ran the website and also could play the streaming video(without even giving Firfox or Opera server rights).

What I suspected from your logs is that ZA prompted a suspicious or dangerous behaviour between WMP and Opera (due to the OSFirewall feature) and you denied it. The alert most probably pertained to WMP trying to install a plugin for Opera to play the video but since you denied it, WMP couldn't do so and therefore you could not stream videos. Shutting down ZA stopped the OSFirewall feature from monitoring the processes in your PC and therefore again allowed WMP to finally install the plugin and allowed you to stream videos hence forth.

I suspected that above is the likely case scenario because from your log, the action of the OSFirewall alert is written there "unknown" , not "allowed" or "blocked", which is rather strange.

well, lets see za put that in the faq..

but the selective start with only za, then adding the other programs bit by bit worked. A tedious process, but one i didnt find on za forums. seesms the streaming thing is very common.
