After a session using a sandboxed Firefox I can close the active application but Fx remains in memory indefinitely. If I try to open a new instance of Fx, a message tells me that it's already running and needs to be closed. The only way to remove Fx from memory is by ending the process via Windows Task manager. This does not occur with an unsandboxed Fx which closes quickly and cleanly. Running Windows XP Pro SP3. Any advice would be appreciated.

Have you tried posting on the Sandboxie forum? The best people to help are there. Aside from that it is probably a conflict with some other security software you are running.

    FYI:
If you're running the Ghostery extension, there was a problem with exactly that, Sandboxie or not, and with FFox from 3.5.6 and up. They fixed it with v2.0.3.

    .
I sometimes have a problem with Windows Live Mail not closing properly when I run it sandboxed. When this happens I just use SandboxIE to terminate all programs.

Not running Ghostery. I posted on the Sandboxie forum; the only response related to the Ghostery extension. Fx closes normally unless it's sandboxed. It's true that I can terminate all programs from within Sandboxie but I shouldn't really have to do that.

Firefox - try safe-mode or new profile - go to the mozilla wiki for that
    support.mozilla.com/

Firefox is locked somehow - either extension, or plugin or messed up prefs

But it only locks up when under the "supervision" of Sandboxie. If I run Fx unsandboxed it closes normally.

trust me - its something additional to firefox - not itself.

    read here
    http://sandboxie.com/phpbb/
    or here
    http://forums.mozillazine.org/
    how to solve that issue.

might missing rights for a plugin to write back into user folder,
so i gave you the hint above (safe mode or new profile, deactivate plugins).

i have firefox running - inside and outside same time - no issues,
no write back to outside (nothing is allowed to write back anytime anybox).

Open FF unsandboxed, go to Help - "Check For Updates..."

Is there's a spinning sorta icon at the end of "Check For Updates..."

Have you deleted the contents of the sandbox first before starting FF sandboxed?

The sandbox is set to automatically delete contents on closing with sdelete. I've also set Fx to delete all history on closing--has helped somewhat.
