Support for live bookmarks is a good reason to pick Firefox instead of Chrome/Opera, if you are addicted to that simpler way of reading/managing RSS Feeds. At least, that was my reason for some time.
Chrome has built-in javascript whitelisting and ScriptSafe. I'd say that's close enough in most cases.
Yay another vote for Safari I am using a outdated version as you might guess. Apple can you start developing Safari for Windows again, Please?
I had no idea that Safari was not still being developed for Windows, but no loss in my opinion. Fortunately I don't (and most probably never will) own any Apple products so fortunately don't have any of their software installed on my computer.
Afaik that's the case anyway, since the Win download button on Apple.com did disappear around 6 months ago. Still good though that Safari is in the poll so that the few Mac users here can vote for Safari if they want.
I'mm sure that Safari, iTunes and QuickTime work really on Macs (I try to stay well away from Macs) but on Windows they seem to be really badly written, e.g. the last time I used QuickTime (a long time ago) it didn't have a full screen mode (I think the paid Pro version may have), and I have seen problems on occasion with iTunes and really high CPU use. I've only ever used Safari very briefly, but it seemed like a very unremarkable browser.
Yes what you said about QT and iTunes on Win is for the most part true (I only got QT installed since some websites uses QT plugins in the browser) But I wouldn't have stayed with Safari this long if I didn't like it as much as I do
I remember using Safari 3 when I had problems with Firefox 3 & a conflict with IE 7 & my Yahoo! Messenger & could only open Safari. It was a lot better than using IE 7, that's for sure. I wasn't so keen on the later releases for Windows though. I doubt that they will change their minds any time soon. If you like WebKit browsers that aren't Chrome, have you ever considered Maxthon or something like Arora? I have never used Arora but I think it would run well on XP (which I believe you are running at present). I've never run Arora, but it kind of reminds me of SeaMonkey on XP looking at this screenshot. Sorry SweX, I just noticed that Arora development has been stopped. How about QupZilla?
I've been using IE9 (x64) and I am now trying Chrome (which I find to be much quicker opening webpages). The only thing that keeps me from 'ditching' IE9 altogether is that I much prefer its user-interface to that of Chrome. Cruise
Switching from IE8 to Firefox using XP/SP-2 solved growing problems with page rendering and overall surfing speed. I also tried (in no particular order) the two most recent incarnations of Maxton Cloud Browser, Google Chrome and Iron, Comodo Dragon, Avant, and K-Meleon. FF 18 is what I'm going with. IE is officially retired.
Hi Dave! Yeah I remember that you liked Safari (a little bit ), but Safari simply didn't like you (your PC/setup) very much Yes that they would start Development for Safari again is probably just not gonna happen, unfortunately. If I would change browser, then perhaps Sleipnir is a candidate even though QupZilla looks very clean and simple just like Safari , but we'll see later on. Though I don't do any kind of banking, or transactions in Safari due to it's being so outdated and have missed out on some vulnerability fixes and stuff like that
Hi SweX, yeah Safari was a bit glitchy. I did like Safari 3 though, it was the first time I had used a bookmarking toolbar that really worked. I didn't have many problems with Safari 3. later versions were not so good for me though. I remember Sleipnir when it had the Gecko plug-in. I don't know what the WebKit version is like. With Maxthon 3 you could re-skin it to make it look like Safari on a Mac, which I thought was pretty cool looking. I don't think that you can do that now in Maxthon 4. Maybe Apple are hard at work developing a really good version of Safari for Windows. LOL
After a short and overall good experience with Opera, I think I am switching to FF. Opera has some problems with Amazon (impossible for me to get any product details if Turbo is not activated) and with Cpanel.
I'm currently using Chrome. But my favorite is still Firefox. I'm thinking of moving back to Firefox. I'm so used to Firefox. Been using it for so long. But Firefox is sluggish. Needs to be faster.
Switched from Chrome back to the latest version of Opera, so far I'm not having page rendering problems as with earlyer versions.
Moved to chrome 2 months ago after using Firefox for 3/4 years. I still do like firefox but i just fancied a change more than anything.
Right Really, I didn't know that. So the user didn't have any other choice but to download the Gecko plug-in to get a working browser.
If I remember correctly; if you didn't download the plug-in with the installation wizard, you had to do it after you had downloaded the browser itself. This was over four years ago though, I don't know if it changed at a later date. The browser worked perfectly well in Trident mode even if you didn't use the Gecko plug-in. I have never used the WebKit version.
In order of preference. They are the only ones installed and being used. 1. Opera (Usage ± 95%) 2. Firefox 3. Seamonkey tied with Chrome 4. Rekonq
