Easy gentlemen. :) Let's all turn 90 degrees and piss on the problem instead of each other.

When you initiate a restore by pressing F11, can you select other backup locations besides the Secure Zone.

When you press F11 to initiate TI, can't you also select to create a backup as well as to restore? If so, can you select a location to store the backup other than the Secure Zone?

I don't use the SZ or Recovery Manager, but I was under the impression that starting TI with F11 offers these options.

    Well said John!

Acronis Support provided a way to invoke the Secure Zonerecovery from a key other than F11, which would allow using the Secure Zone as well as retaining the PC manufacturer's own recovery partition and process. Given how large disks are these days, and what a small amount the PC manufacturer's recovery partition uses, I'd rather keep that second option even if I were using a Secure Zone.

I still prefer imaging to an external drive as I think it's more reliable and more flexible than the Secure Zone. The Secure Zone is there as an option for someone who can't use an external drive or perhaps for a frequent traveller with a laptop who wants to have a way of using ATI recovery when away from home.
