A friend of mine uses eTrust EZ Armour Security Suite. Now he did a virus scan on his C drive which scanned 98,000 files and the time took 13mins 48secs. This scan time just seems to quick and does not sound right. Even as NOD32 being the fastest AV scanner out there will not even take this fast.

Is it possible he hasn't got a setting right or enabled in his settings. Like I said it just seems to fast for a scan of 98,000 files.

No, he has not done anything wrong. Thats about normal for EZ to scan that many files.

Ok I did a scan on one of my PC's using BitDefender Pro 9 and this was my result:

    Files Scanned: 19051
    Time:32mins41secs

Are you saying that eTrust EZ Arnour is a faster scanner than that of BitDefender and also perhaps NOD32. Even my NOD which I have on a another PC doesnt even take this fast to scan over 100,000 files and yet its probably the fastest AV scanner out there.

I used eTrust R7.1 for a while and it would scan 100.000 in about fifteen minutes so I don't see 13 minutes for 98.000 out of line.

Unless the exact same files are scanned on the exact same PC how could you compair scan speed ?

98,000 files on one PC might not be the same 98,000 on another PC, not to mention hardware (CPU,Ram) differences between PC's.

    BD 9 on my PC

    (excluding games/music)
    Files Scanned 57431
    Scan time 5min 33sec.

    (no exclusion)
    Files Scanned 159656
    Scan time 12min 01sec

I just checked my log files. My EZAV is doing 130,000 files in about 19-22 minutes, and thats while I am still surfing the web.

Some scanners are very fast, Command for example has a lightning fast scanner. But eTrust is a fast scanner itself.

He may have very few packed files on his computer OR eTrust AV simply skips these files as it has a relatively poor unpacking engine.

The results are not unusual. But he could supplement this AV with one of the on-line AV scanners as backup e.g. Trend or Kaspersky.

i installed the one year free subscription of the EZ antivirus and scanned one my laptops (1GHz, just 128 MB of RAM... it scanned about 90,000 files) and it took 15-17 minutes.

It was pretty fast considering i only have 4 gigs left, out of 20 gigs in my HD.

I also tried PEst Patrol and that was also fast....id say as fast as spy sweeper installed in the same laptop but i'm not sure if it's as good as spysweeper at detecting spyware.

I am not infering an exact same scanning speed but a general one which the other post's in this thread seem to support.
