If by the time my license is thru the "widescreen window bug" isn't fixed, I won't be renewing my license after 4 years doing it. I'm tired of hitting the "reset window layout" every time I use my PC. C'mon ESET, it doesn't look like it's the hardest bug in the world to fix.

    Hello,

A fix for this is currently being tested in ESET Endpoint Antivirus (formerly known as ESET NOD32 Antivirus Business Edition). If you would like to test the fix, you can download the release candidate for ESET Endpoint Antivirus from ESET's beta test portal at http://beta.eset.com/.

    Regards,

    Aryeh Goretsky

If you right-click on a PIF file, ESET context menu won't appear. Is this a bug?

    This bug affects all versions.
    1. When i right-click on a file, select “Submit for analysis” and then click “Cancel”, the file, however, is being sent.
    2. The file submission window appears behind opened windows.

Set the cleaning level to "no cleaning".
That will prevent the filesystem protection to apply actions automatically such as send the file for analysis.

    Another bugs.
    1. I have installed Risen (game) with a no-dvd fix (EEAD9709F07AE626DC75B378ABD8C601). This file is excluded, but somehow NOD32 removes it without copying to quarantine and logging!

    2.
It's a lie. It will be removed from its original location. Do you test these simple operations or what?

Must add that the file disappears tracelessly on every Windows start-up!

I cannot reproduce it. If I click Cancel, the file is not submitted - there's no submission confirmation in the Event log either.
Please create a new thread for each issue so that your reports are not lost in this long thread.

Please provide step-by-step instructions how to reproduce the issue. Does disabling startup scan tasks actually make a difference? Again, please report each issue in a separate thread.

How did you get to that page? I'm asking because the official changelog on the download page is up to date.

About 7-8 years ago, I did extensive Research on AV software. I determined ESET had the best in terms of detection vs. it's efficient use of system resources (CPU + memory)... I don't recall if that was ESET 2 or 3. I have been running it on 4-5 PC's and laptops at a time. As an IT sales professional, I have often referred it to many customers (before ESET was well known). That is until ESET5. ESET4 was incredible.

I upgraded to ESET5 earlier this year. It's absolutely AWFUL... buggy. My main desktop is an HP quad core (core2) Windows 7 x64 PC with 8GB of DRAM. Somewhere after upgrading from ESET 4 to 5, I noticed my PC would occasionally run out of resources (not having enough free memory for me to log in). I would have to power down and up to recover. Looking in the ESET logs there were tons of error message about bogus rules. Eventually, I disabled HIPS (a buggy intrusion detection system). My problems went away.... for a short time. Not long after that, I would notice that ESET5 would stop working... that's right... STOPPED WORKING after consuming just shy of 2GB of system memory over about an 6-8 hour time window. How do I know it stopped? Updates to the virus DB no longer work (it hangs), installing a USB drive usually causes a window to open with an option virus check... that stops as well. I have to wonder WHAT ELSE IS STOPPED? AM I WIDE OPEN? Also, web sites with Flash are deathly slow. I've gone back and forth with ESET support for many months have sent in many process monitor traces. They advised me to exclude hdsentinal (a SMART HDD monitor). I tried that... no difference. Finally, I've been advised to revert back to ESET4. INCREDIBLE ADMISSION OF FAILURE. I say this as I have read many posts on wilder security forums describing the same set of symptoms. So, my question is what have others done? Should I go to bitdefender instead? There are a lot of complaints about ESET5 from IT managers on these forums which lead me to believe they've become Symantec II unfortunately... while I'm very disappointed, I don't have a lot more of my time to invest. I need suggestions as to a real solution... an AV solution that is reasonable with resources and won't bog down my system... or if you know something important about ESET5 I've missed, I'm all ears. Whatever the case, I hate have to reboot 2-3 times per day. I need a fix (ESET or other).

Memory leaks caused by frequent mounting of drives by certain controller drivers were fixed in the latest build of Endpoint 5.0.2126, not sure what product and version you installed. I'd definitely suggest upgrading to the latest build of Endpoint.

That is great except that it requires a username/password to download... and my existing 4 system ESET license for ESET AV 5 (good for another 1.5 years) doesn't work. Does this mean I'm marooned on the old defective program?

A license that works with v4 must work with any older or newer version of the product you purchased. If you are positive you didn't make a typo, contact your local distributor / reseller who will check your license status and assist you with the download.

I purchased it DIRECTLY from ESET online. So, I'm hearing that Endpoint should work with my ESET AV5 license username/password as it is essentially ESET AV6?

Make sure you're not trying to download the business version and you have a home license etc. Endpoint is the old NOD32 business, whilst Antivirus is the old NOD32 home.

    Strange behavior of NOD32 scanner.
    1. Choose EC10F8472B50DB6A51BCA8F3D25B5EFB → click “Clean files” via context menu → a variant of Win32/Kryptik.UL — cleaned by deleting — quarantined.
    2. Choose EC10F8472B50DB6A51BCA8F3D25B5EFB → click “Scan with ESET NOD32 Antivirus” → Win32/Virut.NBP.

I've installed the beta 6 RC1 ... after uninstalling EAV 5.x... only to find this memory leak problem is still present in the V6. I also notice that much of the virus checking seems to halt when the application gets into this state. Other than a slowdown for web browsing of flash sites, I suspect the symptoms are not understood by the majority of users an that this issue goes under reported. I've seen this reported by others here on wilder. ESET support informed me they have had many reports of this but I was one of the first users to submit all the procmon data to them. I was advised to revert to EAV4. Unfortunately, I view this as being put in the position to consider pulling the plug on ESET for good and would like alternative recommendations. Essentially, ESET has a zero-day exploit... if someone can figure out how to trigger this memory-leak behavior, a PC is likely naked in terms of protection.

    I agree with you.

I just installed EAV 5.0.2126.0, after uninstalling NOD32 biz.

Started a Smart Scan, then tried to stop scrolling the log to see what infiltrations it found and the whole application is now *not responding*!!

    Amazing...

Just got a runtime error for the program after I waited until it did whatever it had to do...restarted it.

Now checked the scan logs, and the columns are not allowing me to resize them to make them viewable.

(All drives reporting that "error opening" boot sectors)

Edited to Add (31 Aug 2012): I find that the new version is not very conducive to updating manually with a right-click as EAV4 used to allow - especially when connections are not reliable where I am...

I also think my computer is running slower - or using more resources due to this program - CPU response is very sluggish...
