Using Acronis Version 8 fully updated.
I have used the program to back up the hard drive on my PC to an external hard drive attached to the PC - successful. However, when I try to back up my Notebook through my home network, I get the message "file, location or format invalid, please type correct file or location in correct format". I have tried umpteen variations of file name etc but without success even though Acronis automatically gives me the start of the file name when clicking on the external drive in Our Network. Can you advise what I am doing wrong or does Acronis not work in a home network situation.

Here is a workaround for now.
Just backup your notebook to a shared folder on your network on another PC, not the external, I would test a complete restore, but if your comfortable with it, you can just check the image. Then, you can just move or copy the backup image to your external drive, if desired.
You will probably have to send Acronis your external chipset specs to assess that problem. I know it also works with an NAS, but not sure of your specific method/hardware.

Or you can try connecting the external drive directly to the laptop. If the backup works when the external is directly connected to the desktop PC it will work when attached to the laptop.

It worked through the shared folder method - thank you.
