Can anyone provide complete/safe step-by-step uninstall instructions for AVG Free 7.5 A/V, AVG Free 7.5 Antispyware, and AVG Free Antirootkit?

Do I just use add/remove programs for each (though AVG Free 7.5 A/V has an "uninstall" option in it's Start Menu folder, but the others do not)?

Do I need to shut down any of the programs first?

Do I need to stop any of the services that are running that are related to any of the programs first?

Should I restart my computer between each uninstall? Or will I be prompted to do so when necessary?

    Thanks!

    Who cares
    Shut down the AVG products
Use Revo Uninstaller in advanced mode to remove them
Use A registry Cleaner like CCleaner's one

    Thank you for the replies.

I'd rather not have to install and/or use another program to uninstall those programs, if possible.

The AVG forum says to use their installer and then choose "uninstall mode" -- but I have read about a number of issues that result with doing that.

Isn't there just regular old step-by-step uninstall instructions for these programs?

    Thanks!

I think it's better to use Grisoft Uninstall tool which you can download here:
http://www.grisoft.cz/filedir/util/avg_arm_sup_____.dir/avgremover.exe This should normally clean everything. For what it exactly removes see here:
    http://www.grisoft.com/ww.faq.num-946#faq_946

Be sure that you first shutdown AVG free 7.5.

The reason when you use the default uninstaller the chance is high that there are still registry entries left that can prevent the installation off other anti viruses.

Remove anti-rootkit trough add & remove.

gery -- Sounds good. So just using add/remove programs (doesn't matter if you shut the programs down and no need to stop any services) for each will remove them completely, correct?

Niels -- That Grisoft Uninstall Tool appears to be geared towards AVG 8.0... And says to only use it as a last resort...

    Thanks for the replies!

yes you have to restart after uninstalling each of them even if a certain program might not require it i think it is safer

I uninstalled each one (avg 7.5, avg antispyware, avg antrrootkit- if you have all 3) them all in add/remove programs on 30 computers with no problems.

    Does that help?

bloomcounty: You said that you want to remove everything. If you only run this tool you don't need to run an additional registry cleaner anymore. The tool should also work for version 7. The reason why I assume that because at the faq there isn't any mention that it only works for avg 8.0. Also when you are on the download page.

Thanks for the replies, everyone! That does help. I think I'll go with add/remove programs. :thumb:

There's really no reason to "clean" the registry after that, is there? I'd prefer not to mess with that. (And I'm assuming installing the new AVG 8.0 Free will take care of what it needs to?)

Any reason to maybe do the add/remove programs for each (with a restart after each), *then* run that Grisoft Uninstaller Tool? Or is that overkill and/or problematic?

Because you are going to use the new version off AVG than cleaning registry entries isn't really necessary. It would amaze me that the tool that Grisoft created isn't safe. Normally only running the tool will be enough. However you can still remove trough add & remove and ran the tool afterwards to be sure that everything is cleaned. Rebooting is necessary. If you first remove AVG the normal way reboot afterwards. Run the tool afterwards to be sure. Reboot again and now install the newest AVG version.

To my knowledge the tool that I've linked to will only remove AVG Free 7.5 (antivirus). For the others you need to remove them by going to add & remove programs. Reboot after you remove them.
