I installed Paragon Drive backup on my Windows 7 x64 just to get the feel of it (looks nice) and now i can´t uninstall it! I get an error message #1723 and the uninstall halts. Error message says: "Error 1723. There is a problem with this Windows Installer package. A DLL required for this install to complete could not be run. Action Remove_uim, entry: Remove, Library c:\program files(x86)\Paragon Software\Drive Backup 9 Professional\uim\InstUIMwrap.dll."

Looking for that DLL it is not present and the file path is non existing. It is the 64 bit version of the software. How do i uninstall this?

    E-Buzz,

Do you have the most recent build of Drive Backup 9 Pro?

During the Windows 7 installation of Drive Backup you are prompted to "Install" or "Don't Install" components relating to UIM, Which option did you select?

I would try running the installation again and selecting repair, if prompted select "Install" for the UIM components, reboot and try uninstalling again.

Did you install on Windows 7 beta, RC or RTM?

Thank you for answer, Sir! Actually i dont know if i have the latest build, my neighbour told me to try Paragon Drive Backup Pro and provided me with an already downloaded version he had on a CD. The "About" box says "Drive Backup™, version 9.0, build 5541 (07.06.08 )Professional". I guess there are a more recent one.....

The suggestion to try repair sounds good, i´ll try that at once!

EDIT: Tried it, but gets the same error message about that missing DLL. Also tried the "Modify" option, same error message. Guess i´ll have to manually delete the files and clean the registry from remnants.

Did you use Windows 7 to uninstall the program? or Drive Backup uninstaller?

Which release of Windows 7 are you using?

Only in the most recent build dated 07-31-2009 (build 10081 for Drive Backup Professional) officially supports Windows 7 32 and 64bit versions.

If you have a licensed copy of the program, any program updates would be available to you by logging in to your account on the Paragon website and selecting "My Downloads".

We do have most of our programs available for demo purposes. A majority of them are fully functional for 30 days.

That´s basically the same thing, right? Windows just calls the programs own uninstaller and then performs uninstallation? For the record though, i went through Control Panel>Programs and Features

    Windows 7 RTM x64

Sounds good, i´ll download and try this recent build.

No, this was a trial copy.

I finally succeeded in uninstalling it by using an uninstall application that performs the task even if there are problems with installation paths and files, so everything is basically back to to normal again. This time i will download the latest build myself instead of relying on neighbours :argh:

I have the same problem. I purchased the pro version but I can't uninstall the trial version on my W7 x64 system. Installing one over the other doesn't work either. o_O

Edit: Solved it. Thanks to windows recovery.

If someone is interested I ran into the same problem on 32bit Win7 RTM and solved it with these steps:

    • Extract the files inside Paragon MSI into a temporary folder with: msiexec /a paragon.msi
    • Navigate into the Drive Backup Pro folder located in the extracted directory structure
    • Copy the complete uim folder into your local Drive Backup Pro installation (e.g. C:\Program Files\Paragon Software\Drive Backup Professional)
    • Launch the uninstall from "Programs and Features" or with a right-click on the MSI file
    • After the reboot, remove the "Paragon Software" folder in "C:\Program Files"

I hope this works for you.
