  1. I can't create a new topic to get a question answered under my registered username, because everytime I goto create a new topic, it puts me back as guest. And before you say anything, I can't get to my profile because it does the same thing, and I can't goto forums through TDS, because I have never been able to get it to run, and I've been trying for over 2 years.

    Hello Couchmeister-2
about which forum are you talking, this Wilders or the private DCS forum?
Do you mean your registered membername here or in the DCS private forum?

Do you mean you did not get TDS working for two years, the evaluation or registered version?

Where exactly goes what wrong? Two years is really long time, did you write for support?

Please clarify these questions and let's see on which point we can start helping you out (or in!)

  3. Jooske,
The forum I'm talking about is the TDS forum on Wilders, I didn't know there was a private DCS forum. It is the evaluation version that I have not been able to get to work.(If the evaluation won't work, I see no reason to spend money on a program that I have no idea if it will work or not) I get the same error everytime I try to run TDS-3, TDS-3 has caused a page fault in kernel32.dll. I looked at the required files page and all mine are newer versions. This is a pentiunII 233mhz with 320mb ram, running win95, everything is up to date. Yes, for 2 years, I've tried many different things, I searched the net for answers, but no one else has had this problem, at least not as far as I have been able to determine. I never sent an email to support because I thought that was only for registered tds-3 users. And searching though the forums is frustrating at best, especially on a dialup connection. I had to basically look at almost every post because most of the subject lines were vague at best.
P.S. Have tried posting to forum many times before, but kept getting errors and had to retry. But this may be a wilders problem.

Did you get all the win95 updates there too, especially the dcom, libraries, winsock32, wsock_2 (or how they are exactly named there), ole, oleaut, windows scripting, etc etc?
Do you run IE 5.5? This will bring a lots of necessary system files too. think 6.0 could be too heavy.
Are you able to upgrade to win98se?
Your system should be able to handle that, depending on discspace.

An evaluation version works only 15 or 30 days or times, so it would not operate at all after two years.
The private DCS fprum is for registered operators only, but email or webmail support is possible or via this Wilders forum.
For the inlog problems here think you best write webmaster@wilders.org to help you in. Could be a cookie problem, or not using IE for instance or maybe proxy, such things.

Looking forward to your next reportage.

  5. Like I said, everything is up to date, I check for updates once a week. I have been running IE 5.5 ever since it came out, and I have it set for auto update. As far as upgrading to win98SE, my system runs more efficiently with win95 than win98se does. I have redownloaded tds-3 several times in the last 2 years, it has never stayed on my system for more than a day, so how can it stop working after 14 days(at least that is what the website says) when it hasn't even worked for 1 day, or even been on the system for that matter? Just a note, I installed the evaluation version of WormGuard about a year ago and it is still working, even though I've tried to uninstall it countless times. Every time I try it gives me an error an the uninstall is halted. I've even tried to find it in the registry, but don't know what to look for. BTW this program was also supposed to stop working after the trial period.
As far as the login prob, I'll contact Wilders about that.

    Hi couchmiester,

Please email me gavin@diamondcs.com.au for step by step instructions to properly uninstall Wormguard. We had a problem with the old installer which left the resident hook installed, so that sounds like your problem.

As for TDS, I will help with it then as well :)

Pity for the update to win98se, which could have made it much easier, as you're missing probably some nice functions.
OK, the kernel32.dll problem, was that the message each time? One of the IE updates ever was so "friendly" to replace my kernel32.dll with an own version, which at another occasion was put back to the original.
Don't know how this is at your system?
Was that the only error from the beginning?

For an eval version it is no use uninstalling to extend it's life time, maybe wiping the whole HD does, or it could be hardcoded in the BIOS somehow :)

    Jooske,
I really don't want to get into a discusion about operating systems, let's just say that I am happy with win95. Now, as for TDS-3 coding something into the BIOS, let me ask you this. Would you want a program making any changes to your BIOS without your permission? I know I wouldn't. I don't think the people at DiamondCS would do something like that, it would mean that if I sold this computer to someone else, then they would never be able to evaluate the program, and the company would lose a potential customer. The exact error message is: TDS-3 has caused an invalid page fault in module kernel32.dll. This is the error I get every time I try to start the program. My kernel32.dll is the origional one, I keep a close check on my system files.
P.S. I have programs that give me most of the functions that win98SE has, with the exception of active desktop, which I can do without, it is annoying.

See your forum entrance is solved! Great.
I'm sure Gavin will help you out with the WG and TDS problems. The kernel32.dll error most of times has to do with required system files, an outdated evaluation version could give some effects too, but i expect more a kind or warning message.
Think you overlooked the fact i placed a smiley with the BIOS remark.

    Jooske,
Yes it seems to be fixed, for now at least. Thank you for your time and putting up with me. BTW I'm using NS6 and sometimes it doesn't show small graphics so I missed the smiley.

NS seems not really to like this board software, but since you're in this time, that will be ok.

Somebody ever forwarded me some about the kernel32.dll which is general knowledge but it made me thinking again:
Kernel32.dll is the 32-bit dynamic link library found in the Windows operating system. It handles memory management, input/output operations, and interrupts. When Windows boots up, kernel32.dll is loaded into a protected memory space so other applications do not take that space over.
On occasion, though, users may encounter the "invalid page fault" error.
This error occurs when a program or application tries to access kernel32.dll's protected memory space. Sometimes the error is caused by one particular program or application, and other times it is provoked by multiple files and applications.
If the problem results from running one application, then the application needs to be replaced. If the problem occurs when accessing multiple files and applications, the corruption is probably caused by faulty hardware.

Did you ever get that same error message from the first moment? And did you have WG running by then or not? And if so enabled or disabled at that time?
Now you had a bad uninstall of WG there could be some conflicts, combine this with the eval time passed.
What i also was thinking a moment, you say you have newer required sysyem files: did you check if they are all ok, unmodified, not corrupt? There is no SFC in win95, are you able to do such a test with one of your other programs?
Gavin will help you much further.

    Jooske,
Yes it is the same error every time, WG was added later and even after removing it, the error with tds-3 still remains.
This is the exact error message I get when starting TDS-3.

This program has performed an illegal operation and will be shut down.
If the problem persists, contact the program vendor.
    Details of error:
TDS-3 caused an invalid page fault in

    SYMPTOMS
When you run a program, you may receive an error message that is similar to one of the following error messages:
Windows 95, Windows 95 OSR, Windows 98, Windows 98 Second Edition

This program has performed an illegal operation and will be shut down.

If the problem persists, contact the program vendor.

    Details:

Program_name caused an invalid page fault in module KERNEL32.DLL at Fault address.

If you continue experiencing problems, try restarting your computer.
    Notes:
Program_name refers to the title of the program that is improperly using the uninitialized critical section.
For specific information about the Fault address values, see the "Fault Addresses" topic in the "More Information" section of this article.
Windows Me does not include a Details option in the error message dialog box. See the "Windows Me Fault Logging" topic in the "More Information" section of this article.
    CAUSE
The error message occurs if a program or driver calls the Win32 EnterCriticalSection function with the address of an uninitialized CRITICAL_SECTION object. In this situation, Windows is behaving as it is designed to. The software that is listed as the cause is responsible for the error. See the "Critical Section Description" topic in the "More Information" section of this article.
    STATUS
    This behavior is by design.

    Fault Addresses
The following table documents the fault addresses that are displayed for the indicated versions of Windows (without any Kernel32.dll updates), and with the Kernel32.dll updates that are documented in the indicated Microsoft Knowledge Base articles installed:

    Critical Section Description
The threads of a single process can use a critical section object for mutual-exclusion synchronization. The process is responsible for allocating the memory that is used by a critical section object, which it can do by declaring a variable of type CRITICAL_SECTION. Before using a critical section, some thread of the process must call the InitializeCriticalSection or InitializeCriticalSectionAndSpinCount function to initialize the object.

Copied from Microsoft Knowledge Base Article - 319508-An Invalid Page Fault Occurs in Kernel32.dll Because of an Uninitialized Critical Section.

As for sfc.exe, I have that program, although it is not included with win95, it will still work with win95, as will msconfig.
