I have stuck with AVG 7.5, and I came across a three year old post here in the forum that was never answered.

"I've always liked AVG free edition, but always wished it offered the option to (automatically) check for updates more often than just once a day.

I've found a small workaround for this: you can create a scheduled task for the file -

    C:\Program Files\Grisoft\AVG Free\avginet.exe

    - and it will check for updates for you. You can customize this task and give it a "multiple schedule" update and set it to check for updates on an hourly basis, if you'd like. However, I was wondering if any of you know of any AVG command line switches that will suppress the update confirmation popup (OK button with 30 second countdown timer)?"

It is that last part that I am also interested in. Is there any command that can be added in the scheduler to kill the pop-up?

I have mine set to check on 3 hour intervals.

    Thanks

with avg 8.0 paid edition, u can automatically set the intervals in 15minutes if u want. but avg does updates only its definition i think 3 times a day.

Yes, I use AVG Free 8 on one of my computers, and I also have a scheduled task to check for updates. Here is the command-line switch I use to set it to run as silent:

    Code:
    "C:\Program Files\AVG\AVG8\avgupd.exe" /sched=
The "/sched=" is for silent updates. Then I just use four multiple schedules to run it throughout the day, at 12, 3, 6, and 9 o'clock PM. And it really works: I open the AVG GUI, and it says last update at 9:00 PM. No popups, no fuss; just a completely silent update

That's a very handy thread for any AVG Free user; I've actually bookmarked that page, and applied some of those tweaks (like not installing LinkScanner).

    Hope I've helped.
