I am trying the free Avast. When I click update it only take o_O o_O about 2 seconds, and says that it has updated. I doubt that it has considering other security programs I have or have tried, such as Bit Defender, and Kaspersky.

I think that Avast is one of the most used free AV. Anyone with some experience?
    Thanks,
    Jerry

    Hello Jerry!
avast! is using a very fast updater, perfect for them who is still stuck with a slow connection. However, when you have updated, you will see a summary confirmation about former and new vps version , updatetime etc. If not, then you have to repair the avast! installation...:)

    Regards, C.

I see the Summary after each update, but cannot understand how the Avast updater is so much faster than others I have used.

    Thanks,
    Jerry

Did you set-up the automatic updater? o_O

In my case I use dial-up connection so I set it up to update automatically w dial-up... and the updates is very fast. But also there are times that it takes much longer a bit, but most of the time it is fast.. even if I am on a slow dial-up connection. You'll be informed by Avast when the updates is finished by the blue info that pop-ups in the lower right side of your pc screen. Also, when there's an upgrade of the program it's also updated.

It connect fast and the very first to make updates everyime I connect to the net. It's a set it and forget it auto updater of w/c I really like and much more faster compared to others. :D

The reason for speed lies in ther excellent incrimental update system and over 50 ultra fast update servers over the world. And result is excellent latency time on update checks and high download rates when update is available.
When update is available, you'll get it for sure :D

You can compare your update version number with the one here:
    http://www.avast.com/eng/vps_history.html

This way you can check if updater is trully working (which most probably is).

    Take care ;)

I have the latest updates according to the site. BOY does it update FAST.
Thanks all for easing my mind.

I tried KAV V5, but it would not update. I emailed the KAV support and they helped or tried to help, but I do not want to bother with an AV that gives me problems when Bit Defender, for example, runs so well on my systems. I am probably going to settle on Avast free if it runs OK as this computer will not be used very much on the web. I also have BD free as a back up scanner.
    Thanks again,

    Jerry
