i know both these are older cpus..

well a couple weeks ago i bought a little system with an athlon 64 2.1 gig processor

then today, a buddy gave me a system with a tyan s5350 motherboard, which has dual intel xeon 2.8 gig processors

which should i use for my main system?

it seems that the dual cpu motherboard with 2 2.8 gig processors would be like having a nearly 5 gig processor? clearly eclipsing the athlon 64 2.0 gig processor? or does it not exactly work that way and im thinking of it in the wrong way?

thoughts are appreciated, i need to get a system built, so this will help me with my decision

    thanks!

Dual XEON outclasses the AMD in every which way.

would that be like running a 5.6 gig processor? if i used the dual 2.8 xeon?

granted it doesnt have a dedicated graphics port, but it does have pci, so i could put in a 512 or 1 gig pci video card and maybe get a couple good years out of it (im thinkin)

Multiple CPUs have same speed, they are never multiplied but you gain more cache and more instructions per second capability especially if the program is multi threaded and multi CPU aware. You also get load balancing factor where the OS controls load to the CPU for better multi tasking. The XEONS have more cache and that too at better speed than the AMD Athlon.
