AT&T tells customers to change their phones or they won't work anymore

    The last thing you might think AT&T branded handset customers would have to contend with is having to fork over for yet another new mobile phone. Those policy board room meetings walls must really be growing small.

    The next phone I get will be on a different carrier. The bad thing is that I'm not unhappy with the service. I just don't like the company.

    Been there, done that. With an outfit named Verizon. Dropped 'em and never looked back.

    That's another problem. I don't want to go back to them either. I'm hoping to find an acceptable alternative to both of them.

    I have had good luck with Google Fi. They use US Cellular, Sprint and T-Moble and it's less expensive than either of them.

    AT&T's ridiculous mistake doesn't feel like a mistake at all

    5G isn't officially supported yet. Even Apple will support it only with new iPhone 12. But I suspect backward compatibility with older phones will continue for several years.
