    Two things....
    1. How come I log in, and the site says I'm logged in, but when I try to start a new topic I'm a guest?

    2. I keep getting emails with a .scr file attachment. I don't know how many I've gotten over the last couple of weeks. These are probably bad, right? I though I read once that viruses can be written into screensavers pretty easily. I try to filter out mail wiht those files, but like everything else MS makes, hotmail is not customizable and I can't make my own filter....

    Hi craigo,

    Welcome to Wilders!!

I'm sorry you are having problems with staying logged on. Here are a couple threads with people describing similar problems. If one of these looks close to your issue, you can reply to it and discuss this problem further there. (For the most part it often is resolved by: fully clearing your browsers cache, deleting the wilderssecurity.com cookie, restarting the browser, and logging in fresh to the forum - choosing the option to stay logged in forever. Another thing you can do is email the Forum Admin at webmaster@wilders.org and he can help you out.)

As to the viruses... Yes, *.scr files are very common ways viruses spread in email. Whether you can block them all automatically or not, just never open (click on) a screen saver file emailed to you. If you read a message with one in it, just delete the message and empty the trash.

What Anti-Virus software do you run? Does it have an email scanning option?

    Welcome again,
    LowWaterMark

I've been a member for a while. I guess today everything is back to normal.

I use AVG, but I don't know if it will work with hotmail. I don't use outlook express to check it, and eudora won't work with hotmail.

You might want to at least run Housecall at Trend Micro's website just to double-check AVG's findings if you don't have a back-up av for a second opinion on the .scr files.

.scr files make me nervous, especially if the files are unexpected. In my experience, they are almost always bad news.

    Good luck!
    :D
