Apple Safari for Windows

I saw this new release for windows and i give it a try, i've always been using IE and i am trying to see if there is a good alternative, is anyone using Safari? And about comparisons to Firefox and Opera? What can you tell me about it?

 

I can tell that it's fast. Works on websites, no webpage compatibility problems, the stable version 3 takes a lot to do video buffering, but the developer preview v 4 does it quickly(means like any other browser). I guess however it suffers from vulnerabilities.

I think Safari and Opera are the fastest browsers in loading pages overall. Firefox 3 is also very fast but personally (I use FF and Opera) Opera seems to be faster.

But Firefox and Opera are the safest.

But I think Firefox is the best overall because of the addons. Safari has nothing, IE has a very limited of its own addons and Opera has Widgets, but Firefox has the most by far and (IMHO) the most useful.

 

I bet Safari in time will be a pretty good alternative, but yeah, for the time being, Firefox and Opera have had more time to weed out issues and tweak things. As far as Widgets, off-topic but until those things aren't constantly taking up browser window space or just plain getting in the way, I don't want them. If they could make them sit someplace in the toolbar up top or on the bottom panel, that would be fine.

By the way, I think one of the reasons Safari is so bland as far as widget/addon-like stuff is because the Mac OS already has a lot of those nifty little widgets, docks, and other things that can be done with Windows with other addons/software, already built in. Safari is pretty new to Windows, give them time

 

Yes, Safari is good and it'll probably get better, but for now I think FF and Opera and the best overall.

 

The purpose of Apple pushing Safari onto windows was so that they can develop it with features relevant to the iPhone.

Beyond that, I can't see why it is even relevant in a Windows environment. There are already 3 competing browsers. What is the point of having another one?

 

To make Apple more famous!

Anyway, Safari is a viable alternative mainly because of it's speed. Though I have to say, Opera is just as fast and more secure and has Widgets.

Seems about the same as the new Opera 9.5 speed-wise, to me anyway. However, I'd take Opera any day over Safari for security reasons.. Safari still seems to have bugs and issues.

 

It's faster than Opera and FF here, on any website. But wait, I'm talking about version 4 developer preview, not the stable version (3). V 4 is very fast and fixes the slow video buffering that v3 has...

 

How much faster? To load an average page, is it 1 second, 500 milliseconds 50 milliseconds etc

Depending on the pages, testing using webwait, it can be from 1s to 10s faster, so I could say an average of 5s.

 

Well is tests it seems to be: Safari and Opera the fastest, depending on the websites one is faster than the other, then Firefox 3, a bit slower than those 2 overall, but in some websites is the fastest, then Firefox 2 quite a bit behind and then IE 8 beta and then IE7 is the slowest.

I forgot to mention, Safari 4 does take 100/100 in the ACID3 test

 

I tested safari and FF 3. Safari was on average 200milliseconds faster on the circuit of websites I visit daily. Not enough to justify a switch.

 

Wow! Isn't the ACID3 test really hard?

hmm a lot of people say safari has issues with a lot of the forums and rendering some pages?? is this true??

how well does it install / uninstall any issues removing it?? any manual removel needed or pretty easy and everything is gone with a simple reg cleaner..

does it do everything out of the box that ff3 can do without any add ons??

im having sooooooo many crashes with ff3 i want to move to something else and im just not a fan of opera... thanks in advance

 

Safari gave mee too frequent page errors to justify the savings of a few milliseconds on most sites.
IE7 cleartype font processing is also much more readable.
