Yes it is.

However ZSoft Uninstaller isn't yet fully compatible with 64 bits O.S..

For now, the user needs (64 bits OS), e.g., to add the following registry key to the "Ignore List": HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node

I can't really say, I've never used the paid Revo.

 

A question about these real time monitors.
Are they good enough for software that requires a reboot to complete installation?
With Revo Pro you have to press the stop button when installation is complete, how can you complete the monitor fully if a reboot completes installation?

 

I stumbled on Advanced Uninstaller v10 some days ago and it was a new one to me. There is a free and a pro version, but the free one seems thorough anough. It also work on Windows 7 64-bit. From the descriptive, it can do more than monitoring installations but this was my first interest when I checked the program.

(Please note that I did not try it as I am already set with Total Uninstall.)

 

jv16 Power Tools contains a software uninstaller that works OK. Even if the program's uninstaller doesn't work, you can use jv16PT to get rid of the registry entries (having saved a backup of the entries in case of problems). You can also use it to get rid of entries in the registry that the uninstaller itself didn't remove.

 

Total Uninstall detects a reboot automatically and resumes the operation when system has restarted, AFAIK Revo Pro is not able to do that.

I'm a long time TU user but the brutal 1 year license policy has made me stop updating TU, Author may milk me out if they indeed significantly improve their products over a year period, Total Uninstall changes perhaps 6 lines of code on a yearly base, and I'm no more willing to keep ditching money for the same old thing, allthough I have to admit it's a great uninstaller.

Revo otoh is extremely clumsy, horrible layout of what changes has been mode, not possible to track reboot-need-installations, and clumsy way of adding registry/file items to the exclude list.

 

Doesn't Revo work for only so long before it ask you for a license key at which time you can't use the program at all?

 

+1 Revo here too.Never had any issues uninstalling anything with this app.It's a pretty good roguebuster too.

Well, you need to have a license to able to do something, the free version is nothing more than the good old Windows Uninstall selection screen, just in another jacket, and a collection of worthless junkfile / regfile cleaners / autoruns locations all known crapware is bundled with, because their programs serve no real purpose anyway.

Have you used the free Revo Uninstaller? You are correct that initially it runs an application's own uninstaller, but then it scans the drive and registry so you can remove whatever is left. That's not what I would call crapware.

Thanks for the info about Advanced Uninstaller (AU). I've been looking for a good free program with x64 support. AU has some additional modules that may prove useful too, such as a startup manager.

 

Zsoft works fine with a reboot/install. When you encounter the reboot notice, simply hit Zsoft's "Cancel" button. After the reboot, run Zsoft & simply tell it to "Finish an analysis that has already been started."

TU is definitely good, but as you, I don't like the yearly license policy along with the fact that the developer came up with an additional revenue angle by making two programs out of one. He split TU apart into a Standard and Pro version starting with v5. He removed half the functionality from the original application and made 2 programs out of it. I still use 4.9.5 which is pretty much the same as the current TU Pro version and it was $10 cheaper

The functions I use the most are export registry and changes, I also often use the install upgrade feature which basically merges a previous version's log with the new version's log. You can also customize the monitoring profiles to exclude events that are irrelevant to the installation. Fairly flexible application. I may have to upgrade when I move to Win7 though.

The following sentence from the review sounds real cool:

I like Revo Free. I've tried the Pro version too, but there's no explanation in the help file how it traces an installation, and as far as i can tell there's no way to review logs for traced programs (the help file mentions an export option, but I have yet to find it). Bottom line, it's not transparent enough for me.

I use various snapshot tools to take a before and after shots of the registry and system partition (at least C:\Windows). Regshot2 aka Regshot Unicode is an excellent free snapshot tool. The older Regshot 1.72 is fine too. SysTracer Pro 2 is perhaps even better, but not free. Personally I use InCtrl5 (free) combined with my own Autohotkey scripts to further clean the InCtrl5 snapshot logs and to display log output in a way that makes it easier for me to check/remove recorded files or registry entries.

The problem with all these snapshot tools is the amount of noise you get in any before-after snapshot comparison (especially if a reboot is involved). Subsequently reviewing snapshot logs can be tedious. I don't think there's any easy way around it, you just need to take a lot of shots and see what entries always show up so you can exclude them from future shots.

 

Sorry Revo Pro is junk, I happen to be a PC Tech and I can tell when a software program is doing it's job, especially something like this and Revo leaves even the software applications folder/directories behind.

I suggest you learn to look at your files/folders manually and the registry to see.

Anyhow thanks for your input, now people please stop talking about Revo I know about it already and you should get that junk off your PC.

Well I was hoping there would be a big consensus on applications here but I guess not.

Now if ZSoft does what bellgamin says, rarely misses then this sounds pretty darn good, so for now I'm going to give Zsoft a spin.

 

Something I've been toying with using ZSoft.

If an app is already installed then you don't have a log to uninstall.

You can generate an uninstall log in a VM then use that log on another machine.

Create a logs folder within ZSoft's programs folder, if not already created, and drop the uninstall log in there then it should show up in ZSoft's gui.

Early days but seems to work ok at this stage.
