Anti malware For Win 98se users? (yes there are some!)

I am very sorry to see that A-Squared Free is no longer supported.
Anyone have any suggestions for the replacement? Free or buy.

I am running Superantispyware v 4.24.1004 - which is that last version that will run at the moment as v 4.25 does not run. If you have SAS on Win 98 machine switch off automatic update a.s.a.p.

On occasion SAS would miss something A-squared free found ......is Spyware Doctor by PC tools any good?

 

i cannot really say,but was LUA an option 11 years ago?
maybe you could use that.

 

For Win98, I recommend the following:
* ESET NOD32 2.70. x : ESET still supports ver 2.7.x that works on Win98. If you want a complete paid solution, this would be the pick. Plus its the lightest on resources and even on an old machine it will run like a breeze.

If Dr.Web still works on Windows 98 it should be with no doubt first choice for commercial antiviruses. Dr. Web has always been great choice especially for older PC's.

Do not forget to mention Avast, free and pro.

 

Actually, BD 10 Free AV has some realtime features enabled for Win 98/ME ONLY, and IMO performs better than the paid "stuff(it)."

I have used Dr Webs Cureit - for some reason BD doesn't like my setup and won't run...... I'll have a look at the others.

Sorry, I forget probably the best free AV available.
Avast Home Edition, its free for personal use and is quite lite. You need to do a free registration and you'll get your license. And they support Win95/98/ME

Yes, it's one of the best anti spywares out there. It should make a good combo with NOD32 2.7.
