Not a serious problem but very annoying:

I am buuilding myself a new PC based ond Gigabyte motherboard GA-EP45-DS5.
    Harddisks:
One IDE 80 GB, one primary partition 40 GB, one extended partition 40 GB. Windows XP SP3 on Primary part.
One SATA 160 GB, one Primary partition
One SATA 160 GB, one logical drive in extended partition

ATI 11.8101 works just fine. Analyzing partitions at ATI startup took less than ten seconds.

Then I added a SATA HDD 250 GB one logical drive in extended partition.
Now analyzing partitions at ATI start takes nearly 15 minutes !!

Why is that? What can I do about it.

    Thanks, Orla

btw: When analyze is finished ATI works normally and I can do backups and restore

You can check whether the Distributed Link Tracking Client service is running and if so, turn it off. Very few networks use this and it's not needed unless your network is using it. It can slow down ATI just the way you are describing.

To find it click on My Computer, click on Manage, click on Services & Applications, click on Services, find Distributed Link Tracking Client on the list, right click and slect stop is Distributed Link Tracking Client is running/started.

If that doesn't work, you can try using msconfig.exe to to shut down the startup programs except for ATI stuff and see if runs onkay. If so, then add back progs until you find the one that presents a conflict. Either keep the prog disabled when using ATI or, if it's a security prog (Zone Alarm, Norton, Kaspersky, etc) see if you can mark the ATI exe progs as allowed.

If that doesn't work, then it's a diff glitch in ATI and you should open a ticket with Tech Support so they can help track down the conflict.

Thank you SHIEBER. That did the trick.

At first I could not stop the Distributed Link Tracking Client. I got an error message saying it could not be stopped. Status for the service then was "Stopping". I then rebooted and changed the service to start manuel, rebooted again and checked that the service was not running when windows was running agin.

After that ATI analyzing at startup now again only takes few seconds. I'm using Microsoft ICS networking, but it still works as before. The same is true with read/write on harddisks.

    So..... thanks again, Orla
