Sad for you. I enjoy trying new things, even if I have all I need. I guess that's why I have so many ukuleles.

@bellgamin to me AV are just waste of time and resources, not worth using if you have decent knowledge. However I don't mind testing new software based on more efficient mechanisms (sandboxes, anti-exe, SRP etc...) but AV, no thanks unless I work for a vendor like I did in the past.

guest, I emphasized the "if" in your statement quoted above. Not everyone has as much security know-how as you do.

In fact, most of the people I know have never even heard of the kind of security apps listed in your signature, much less those apps listed in Wilders "other anti-malware software" forum. Most of those folks are getting by just fine with only the AV & firewall that came pre-installed on their computer when they bought it.

If AVs were as useless as some folks seem to think, then there would be a great outcry for AVs to be replaced. OSArmor, AppGuard, Voodoo Shield, et alia, would have mass-market appeal, and HIPS such as Malware Defender would still be around instead of moribund. But the dead are dead & the niche market is still niche, & part of the reason is that, for the preponderance of everyday users, AVs are NOT just a waste of time. In fact, many "AVs" are no longer merely "AVs" -- they have grown & improved & become multi-faceted protection. Moreover, they are still growing & improving.

I am firmly convinced that ahnlab's V3 is very much a part of the group of AVs that are no longer mere AVs, & that V3 is diligently seeking to improve itself. I believe V3 & every new &/or improved security app deserves a careful review by the knowledgeable denizens here at Wilders, instead of just summarily writing them off as a waste of time. I am convinced that there are several security apps that have gotten better because of what the more advanced users of these forums have contributed by actually using those nascent security apps, & by offering positive, objective comments for their improvement.

This applies as well to the software you use based on your signature. It's all just pure paranoia.
IMO, the only thing that is worth using for a knowledgeable person is a firewall control.
like using a HIPS module is just a huge pain and a waste of time, because in most cases if you deny access for a specific system call for a program, it will crash, meaning you don't get to use it, so on...

I agree with bellgamin, AVs are not useless nor they're a waste of time.

Please don't mix me with those paranoid freaks using 4 AVs and 20 extensions, if you knew me better, you would know I'm a tester, so I love to test combos. More for fun than protection.
If I didn't, I would be just as fine using my Win10 enterprise, toying with GP and SRP/Applocker.
But lately I'm more on Linux than Windows, windows is still used because of my work.

Not even needed, I used to block all outgoing connections and manually create rules on the fly. Things like binisoft WFC are just more convenient.

That if you don't know what you are doing, anyway HIPS are not my favorite (note than ReHIPS isn't a HIPS but a sandbox program).

AV as single scanner are obsolete, it is why all of them are coupled with BB or HIPS or sandboxes and other webfilters. Remove the scanner the system would be protected just fine. It is a fact.
The real time scanner will just reduce the user decision part (hence why beginners get the most from it) but at the price of potential false-positives.

Personally, I prefer SRPs above all, I create my policy, and it block all things I don't explicitly allow. No prompts, no false positives, no system slowdown.
There is no better mechanism at the moment. But it is not for everyone.

Of course, I don't deny that, why the "if", sadly average joe doesn't have the time nor the will to learn more.

Some are niche, others are corporate only, but all have one common thing, they require knowledge of the system, and since the masses don't have it, AV will still be popular, not because they are so efficient but because people can't handle more sophisticated mechanisms.

I still stand to my point, if you can handle the prompts of an AV with BB/HIPS, you would realize then that you don't need the AV module anymore (unless you like or feel safer with them) and you can use more refined softs like SRP, anti-exe, pure HIPS, etc...
    That was my path.

I have been using Ahnlab Ver3 for a while now and really like it. It does very well in testing and is very light on the system. I believe a lot of people are missing out on a good security program. It is worth a try if your not satisfied in your current program.

I use SecureAPlus & am very satisfied with it.

I tried the Ahnlab V3 a while back & agree with you -- it is really quite light. However, it seemed that it relied primarily upon signatures and was not as fast as other AVs (e.g., ESET) in dealing with zero-day stuff. Also, I found no evidence that it was actually using a behavior blocker or HIPS or heuristics or AI -- just signatures.

In today's situation, I doubt that a mainly sig-based AV is a good long term solution. HOWEVER, I stand ready & eager to be proven wrong. I would be delighted to be shown that Ahnlab has become a well-rounded, multi-faceted AV.

It may be light, but detection rate is not as good at the big name antiviruses. As well, it has issues with removing some threats. It can detect them, but not remove them, even though they are not actually running on the system.

I just tried version 4, which was released in October and the issue with removing some threats, is still there.

Considering that there are other antiviruses which are also very light, but have better signatures and behavioural detection, as well as less bugs, I don't think this is good option at this point in time.

I tried it and it's really very good. And it's good news that an ASAP member is using and recommending that antivirus.:)

Been testing it since today morning the proactive modules like anti ransomware and behaviour blocker is very responsive it even triggered on malware samples that weren't ransomware. Can't say how effective their signatures are yet although the web blocking is pretty good imo.

When BB can't identify something they give user a option which i am not a fan of.I cant figure out how they decide which binary they upload to the cloud so far i have seen few samples which didn't get uploaded and sometimes the cloud feed tends to pop up saying the file has low reputation and asks you to block it.Maybe someone from their team can talk about it here if they are around. So far i am really curious about this new program.

Cloud analysis is not doing much yet from what i have seen.It uploaded some files and couldn't identify them as malicious.

Logical, isn't it? It is a * free * antivirus service but at least they have the respect towards users to report this.

I liked it and used it until I got licenses of some paid AMs for my PCs. I will return back to it after those license periods expire. I practice safe networking and have AM as just a layer of protection. Further, I have Lifetime licenses of MBAM and Adguard to complement anything. I like the fact that it is light, updates multiple times a day and shows no ads in a clean interface.

Recently, a memory diagnostic function has been added.

Below is the content of Google Translate.

    -
In addition to this behavior detection function, the 'Process Memory Diagnosis' function has been newly added to the V3 Lite 4.0 product, and performs a function of detecting and treating a malicious part of the process memory area in real time. That is, in steps (5) and (6), a malicious code injection process to the normal process performed by the ransomware can be diagnosed / repaired in real time to block the ransomware infection.

    Wow... top of the heap
Reinstalled v3lite... running very nice on w10 64b
    https://www.av-test.org/en/antivirus/home-windows/

The only important thing I see crippled in free version is credential protection ... other disabled are support, parental control, firewall (easily replaced) and a service manager. Free includes anti-ransomeware.

    Out of curiosity...
If one were to opt for purchase of V3 Internet Security (Pro Version) Is there an easy procedure for non-enterprise customers?
Website DL requires login "If you don’t have login account, please contact your sales representative in AhnLab or authorized AhnLab partners."
    ??
