The Outpost firewall is very good, the firewall is top notch and the hips module is very good too.The spyware module is okay at best but the web control module is excellent when you tweak it to your liking, you can block scripts etc. Comodos firewall is excellent too and defence plus is very good also. There is not much between them as they are both very good products IMHO.

This is just my opinion... the free version of Outpost is not as good as Comodo, for example you can not break outgoing connections with Outpost's free version BUT Outpost's paid product is just as good as Comodo. They are both very good products.I'd personally stick with Comodo unless you want to splash out cash on Oupost. I won my outpost license and that is the reason I use Outpost, I like Outpost and have been using outpost for a couple of years now otherwise I would be using Comodo. Both products offer great protection.

Do you find that we can install over the top, or should I uninstall the previous version of the firewall first. Thanks:)

Updating OP can normally be done by updating over the old version. It has worked well like this for a number of years. Occasionally there is a problem and then the best way is to use Agnitum's clean up tool - clean.exe - in safe mode to get rid of remnants and start a fresh install clean.

I have 2 security suites which I like and I'm switching between them: Outpost Pro (have a lifetime license) and Comodo.
Now I'm with Outpost until CIS 6 will arrive.

In a nutshell No, Agnitum told me via twitter that updates for the free program are limited, this is because they want to push people towards their paid product(s), it is a business after all.

hmm i would sooner not even bother with the free version if it is limited and not using its full potential and it would seem with that philosophy that outpost free users are in fact not as secure as the paid users.is that what agnitum are saying?
Limiting a free version to push them into paying for the product is verging on scareware in my opinion.
This is where comodo is superior because they offer FULL protection for free and do not limit its free product because the end user will be less protected with a limited free product.Im sorry but i think agnitum have the wrong ethic here somehow.:thumb: :isay:

Thanks Manny, I did as suggested and all is well so far. ;) For future reference, can you please refer me to where the clean.exe file is located? I wasn't able to find it. Thanks in advance. :)

Agnitum's paid products - Outpost firewall Pro/ Security suite/ AV have an Alert for process/file activity and are marked by one of the following colours:
    - Red - untrusted files
    - Yellow – suspicious files
    - Green – processes and/or files from trusted sources with active digital signatures
it is an ability to automatically submit suspicious files for analysis directly from Outpost action request window.

the above is a feature of the Outpost Pro 7.5 product line (Paid versions only) Agnitum have told me that Agnitum have no plans to add this their free product(s).

There are other limitations too but overall their free product is very good IMHO. Comodos suite is very good IMHO.

No, Agnitum offers a free 30 day demo of its full paid product. That's a demo. The free version is just that. A version which has some functionality disabled but otherwise is identical to the free product.

You can use the free product quite safely but it's not as easy and doesn't have as many features. For example, and the one I dislike the most, the logs in the free version only show what is blocked but not the allowed connections as the paid product does.

The free version, of course, is an enticement for the paid product. After all Agnitum is a small business and somebody has to pay for the programmers to feed their families. They can't work for free. Would you?

How does comodo manage it then.?
They offer a full free product so why cant agnitum.?
Im sorry but i would rather the software companies did not bother with limited free versions.
And "enticing" free users into paying is not ethical in my opinion.
I also noticed that agnitum advertise the outpost free security suite as being the first ever full free suite when we all know this to be a lie.
Comodo was up and running long before this product came along and it seems it is using more or less scare tactics to get people to buy the product.:thumb:

Comodo makes their money elsewhere so they can afford to provide a full free product. Agnitum is a small company and can't afford something like that.

People and companies, everywhere, give free samples as a way to entice customers to purchase their product. Haven't you ever got a free sample at a candy counter. The principle is the same. If you don't want a sample then don't take it.

What difference does it really make as to who came first with what? It's a waste of time to discuss things like this and I won't do it.

    hi manny,
Thank you for the clarification and as you so rightly stated it is irrelevant who came up with it first.
Users choice at the end of it.
    Kind Regards.
